« on: January 09, 2012, 06:16:28 PM »
I have mine inside a lean to on the side of my shop. it to fills with smoke i just open the doors and the wind takes care of the rest.
so far so good nice and warm in the house toasty in the shop. very impressed less work than running two wood stoves, and my shop is always warm, no condensation on my stuff.  and i can`t belive there is hardly any smoke coming out the chimney, my nieghbours didn`t even know i put an OWB until i told them last week. and been running since october.

Yes, i found some pipe.

Looks like i am heading for the border, for a shopping trip to the good old USA

i found a central boiler dealer near buffalo 11.00 a foot for thermopex

and a trip to Outdoor Furnace supply in Middleton Ny for the rest of the stuff ineed

probally going to pick up a new brushcutter too.

with exchange right now i`ll save roughly 1200 bucks

for a six hour drive.

Thanks

Plumbing / Side Arm Sizing for DHW
« on: June 13, 2011, 02:32:39 PM »
Can you guys give me some ideas on sizing my side arm heater.
i will be making it myself as i have some stainless lying around the shop
i have a piece of 2.5 ID stainless i will be using for the outer jacket
should i go .75 with the water line or 1 inch.  And what length should i make the whole unit
i plan on running a circulating pump on the hot water tank set-up.

Thanks
Pat

Brian was the best price but the problem is shipping

my friend ron drives truck to winnepeg weekly and he is going to pick up my unit

the problem is i need 12 feet of deck space on the truck for unit and pipe

if i just get the unit it is easier for ron because he can still fill the rest of the truck with wood

if i need 12 feet that is almost half of one of his trailers

and i would have to pay for what he would lose on wood. if its just the unit it is much easier

i can get urecon for 13.80 a foot and a 2 hour drive one way.

that price is from green valley in lucan ONT. they are the only ont dist for urecon

but they have been very helpful with different information so that`s where i am going to get it.

with shipping its not worth it, were did you get your urecon from

thanks
Pat

i don`t get my new house till june 30th

i will be paying for it this week and when i am ready my friend who hauls steel to winnipeg is going to pick it up for me
anytime i am ready.  who did you get your urecon from best i can do is 13.80 a foot
and the rhino stuff is 10.50 only problem is urecon is a 2 hour drive and the rhino stuff is in il.
just waiting on a shipping quote, i need 190 feet so at almost a 3 dollar per foot savings it can be a big deal

Equipment / Re: Any welders here? Welding steel to cast iron?
« on: May 15, 2011, 07:02:46 PM »
309 stainless steel stick

preheat if you can and wrap it up when you are done

cast iron is tricky stuff,  you have to reduce the amount of thermal shock to make it work

if you don`t preheat it could fracture the cast when you strke the arc

and if you don`t wrap it when done, it will crack beside the weld because it contracts to fast when cooling

best i can do to help you, you could try MIG but i wouldn`t recommend it

Portage and main gasifier 250

i think they seem to capture more heat before the smoke leaves the chimney

they were the cheapest for underground piping

just have to wait till i get so measurements on my new place before i order

delivery will be early july hopefully

Thanks
Pat

There is no current regulation governing owb in my township

but there have been many complaints about smoke coming from units

The township told me that they are working on some sort of regulation

And they HIGHLY recommend that i go with a epa model to save future headache

Hello

i am new to the forum, and looking to install a OWB at my new house

Can`t decide between the two, e classic or PandM gasifier

i won`t install a no epa unit andthis seem to be the two most helpful dealers i have called

i have a 2200 country bungalow 23 years old and a 34 X 56 insulated shop plus the hot water in te house

does any one have a experience with these wo units

Thanks
Pat
