Central E-Classic or Portage and Main gasifier
« on: May 01, 2011, 12:44:14 PM »

Hello

i am new to the forum, and looking to install a OWB at my new house

Can`t decide between the two, e classic or PandM gasifier

i won`t install a no epa unit andthis seem to be the two most helpful dealers i have called

i have a 2200 country bungalow 23 years old and a 34 X 56 insulated shop plus the hot water in te house

does any one have a experience with these wo units

Thanks
Pat

Mr. Crazy,

After doing my homework on both, p&m is the one for me.  I looked hard at both units, and both are acceptable.  But, P&M just seems to beable to catch more of the useable heat before exiting out chimney.

I would think you would like it, if not just for the fact it is manufactured in Canada???  But again, they are both top of the heap for outside gasifiers, in my opinion.

Much like comparing Chevy to Ford.

Good Luck on your decision.  Let us know the end result...

Just curious, why it has to be an EPA model? Do you need that where you are? It doesn't necessarily mean it is better to be epa certified, it just means the manufacturer paid the EPA $35,000 + to have it tested. (and pass their test)

There is no current regulation governing owb in my township

but there have been many complaints about smoke coming from units

The township told me that they are working on some sort of regulation

And they HIGHLY recommend that i go with a epa model to save future headache

Pand M units are real nice units.I have never seen one in person but I am impressed with what I have seen online.I am not convinced on the CB units.
Have you looked at the Nature Comfort GT500 gassifiers?
I have a friend who has one of those and is heating 2 homes at 4500sq.ft. each and DHW for both.It has performed very well.

Mr. Crazee,

What did you come up with?  Both of those companies gave me names and addresses of folks close by who have and been using those 2 furnaces.  Sure helped w/my decision.

Will schedule my delivery w/in 2-3 weeks.  P & M

Portage and main gasifier 250

i think they seem to capture more heat before the smoke leaves the chimney

they were the cheapest for underground piping

just have to wait till i get so measurements on my new place before i order

delivery will be early july hopefully

Thanks

Mr. Crazee,

Good for you!  Here's hoping we made the best choice.  I do agree about well built and nicest design for capturing most usable heat.

I suppose I could have got away with non-gasifier, but why make waves...  When humidity is high, and winds right, smoke goes straight to neighbors. 150 yds away.  But we should be A-ok with the amount of smoke I saw  being emitted from PM opt 250!

Luck to you and keep us posted!

Put my progress on Mr Ridgekid's "pinging Bill G." post.  Read there....
