General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / What Burns in Standard OWB?
« on: October 31, 2011, 11:17:52 AM »
What do you guys burn in your standard OWB (Not Gassifier)?  I swear you could design a small house to run on junk mail.  Paper/cardboard so long as embers not coming out stack? Used motor oil in smal volumes?

Plumbing / HE Orientation?
« on: September 23, 2011, 06:16:58 PM »
12 x 20 duct, 12 wide and 20 high, my HE is 12 x 21 but the outlets come out on the 12" end so I can only install the HE with the outlets up.  I understand this is not the correct method, the outlets should be parallel to ground.  I don't understand why.  Do I need a HE that is 20 x 12 with the outlets on the 20" side?  Or will this one work?

Plumbing / HE in attic, getting air out?
« on: September 17, 2011, 10:58:03 AM »
What is the best practice to get air out of line in the attic?  I suspect i need to fillthe line with water starting at the high point?  Maybe and air purge valve also?

Plumbing / CPVC to HE?
« on: September 07, 2011, 06:43:47 AM »
I have to get from the basement to the HE in the attick, say 18' up thru an internal wall.  Now there is no chance in H_LL of getting noodly 1" PEX thru.  Any problem going from 1" PEX to 1" CPVC to go up thru the house?  CPVC has the same temperature rating.

Secondly, I probably heed a way to fill the pipe in the atick to get acolumn of return water so the pump has a chance.  What is the best practice?

Electronics / Basic Thermostat Relay and Fan Wiring?
« on: August 21, 2011, 06:40:18 PM »
I have a two zone basic heatpump system (two heatpumps and the downstairs at least has ane emergency strip.  I will keep that programable thermostat as is to run the heatpump and add a OWB Thermostat to turn on the boiler circulator and the houses air handler.  I'm not sure what I'll do on the upstairs system yet.  So here goes.  I can pick up the red-black-green 24v wires at the air handler and run them to the new basic digital thermostat.  What wires from the thermostat go to the relay (White Rogers Type 91)?  I assume that one or two wires also return to the air handler relay to drive the fan, do I just run the appropriate color wire from the Thermostat to both the 110 relay for the OWB and the 240 relay for the air handler.

Will the same 110 line (20 A) be able to run both OWB boiler circulators (one for each heatpump)?  Guess I need to check what amps they pull.

I'm sure this is easy for a pro but I'll need to go slow.

Plumbing / On Demand Propane HW (Rinnai) Plumbing
« on: March 19, 2011, 10:29:37 AM »
Installing an OWB with hot water coil.  I now use a Rinnai On Demand propane water heater.  I'd like to run the hot water from the boiler coil into the inlet on the tankless heater so that I get hot water quicker (Rinnai heats the cold water in the line to the OWB) and it is ready to go without adjusting valves to redirect water when the OWB is 'down'.

Any experience with a setup like this?
