BL series
« on: January 15, 2014, 01:08:24 PM »

I know I've talked with some of you guys already, but I was wondering how everyone likes them so far? Thinking about getting one of these and wanting to know if there is anything I need to look out for

Nothing at this point and if anything does develop, it is a very simple boiler that goes a step further by it being a modular boiler, the boiler breaks in half and the base can be seperated from boiler section making any future repairs to the boiler and tank very easy.

Hey guys, I have a BL 34/44 put into use on Dec 31/2013. My house was in the low 40 degree range every morning upstairs.
We live at about 9,500 feet of elevation, typically would burn from mid December to the 1st week of June with our indoor wood stove. We have baseboard and a propane slant fin boiler. Propane went from 99 cents to about 3.50 to 3.75 a gallon.
I can't say enough about portage and main. Brian he treated me well, and this BL34/44 is unbelievable. My entire house, about 4000 sq ft. Is as warm as my wife wants it, 4 zones, 78, degrees, and the house lacks in insulation. 0 to 15 below night time temps, my Bl 34/44 handles them with ease. Had only one issue the badger pump that P.M provided lasted 24 hours. Called Brian Martin  of P.M. on a Saturday. On Monday he 2nd day airs a new Grunfos 26/96 to new mexico no charge! No complaints or questions from P.M. just fixed the problem. This is my 1st owb. I couldn't be happier. Nothing like being warm. Good luck and I hope you get a portage and main boiler. You will be treated right.

I'm definitely leaning that way. Just trying to decide which model  is the right one for the job. Gonna be heating 2400 Sq ft in a 1.5 story house with dhw and 1200 Sq ft in a shop with 10 ft walls that will have in floor heat.
Out here in Nova Scotia we don't get the cold like the rest of the country. Probably see 5f a few times per winter, but it's usually in around 15f to 20f. From what I've heard from some guys using the 28 40, it's all I should need. I just need to pull the trigger now

You should be fine, use good pipe and you may need to feed it more than once every 12 hours when it gets really cold, thanks for your interest.

I'll be using Logstor for sure. Might as well do it right the first time

Brian can ship it with the stove if you like.

I searched all over for a logstor dealer close to new mexico, none around. And to ship it from the mid west, shipping was more than what 150' of logstor  would cost. I ordered it from portage and  maine . Logstor  was shipped with the stove. Depending on the length, you should have some help to move and unroll it. You can't go wrong with the BL. It is a solid well built unit. Good luck

Good to hear. Ya Slim, I spoke to Brian last week and he told me they sell the Logstor. I'll probably be getting everything than I need from him. Much easier that way since I doubt I would find much of what big need around here
