Hauling my wood home from the woods
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:17:51 PM »

I am helping my nieghbor who is clearing 8 acres of woods for a farmer. We are hauling all the logs we can get home and then just burning the tops and saplings in the ground.Man we have a crap load of wood so far and there is so much more good stuff to bring home.
He takes it down with the excavator and another friend who burns wood is there cutting the top loose and the stump. Then they pile the logs up.When I get off work I haul my trailer up and use my skidloader that I dropped off to load the trailer.
working real good to get the wood home for us to cut and split at our liesure.
sorry for the cell phone pic.I forgot my good camera in the shop. That's my nieghbor kid helping put the Stihl away so we could head back to the house.

looks like some good wood.  I wouldnt bother splitting any of it unless its a log bigger than it appears!

I'd split it at least in half, because I don't like lifting heavy wood more than I need to

Alright here is a few pics of how we are getting it down. And one of another friend who is helping cut the logs out.
Yeah I will be splitting the large stuff, but not all of it.I don't want to handle too much huge stuff. We are pulling them down with an IH excavator.Jack gets them down and then Daniel and I cut the stumps loose and the tops.Jack sets them in a pile. Then I bring load the trailer with my skidloader and grapple bucket.
We are dumping them at my nieghbors house as we get them ready to haul.We figure we are getting close to 4 1/2 cords of wood on my trailer on each trip.
My trailer is 8.5' by 24' ,and we load it higher than 4'.We also consider all the space inbetween some of the logs.If it was packed solid it would be 6 cords.
So far I have hauled 5 loads home like this.
Nothing like trees,Chainsaws, and heavy equipment! :D

well I have hauled atleast 4 more loads home of logs.Heck one load was just the tops out of 3 trees that the loggers left.Even after what they have taken we still have a crap load of wood to take down and haul.
We could haul like this till christmas and not have it all out.I think I could start building a fort now.LOL

Build a wall/fence of logs like they used to do a long time ago.  Bury them in the ground sticking up 8-10 feet and sharpen the tips.

That would be an awesome type of wall between me and my neighbor.  It would fit in with my new trucks (M35A2).

They're making their way to me this week from SC.  I'll get pictures of the trucks once they get up here.
