Title: Temp and effiecency!
Post by: aries9245 on November 18, 2014, 02:47:00 PM
What temp is everybody running at and how efficient is it does it run more often at higher temps or less I'm playing with my temps since we are hitting in the teens these next few days trying to see what works best

Once it gets up to temp depends on the differential and the load on it. I'm running 180 with a 10 degree differential. With a high of 19 today I got about 10 hrs off this mornings load. That was only 24 inch long pieces so that was about half the length of what I've been putting in.

155-170. After all my testing I have found d this is the best overall setting.

I ran mine at 150 for one year and would never do it again.  Someone told me that you use less wood because it takes less energy to keep the water at a lower temperature.  What I ended up with is a cool house when temperatures were single digits and the heat pumps/fans ran all the time.  Plus, I had this tar like creosote that I had to scrape out of my stove.   I ran it like that for 3 months, finally I cranked it back to 180 and my problems went away.  No more tar and pumps ran less; I didn't notice a change of the amount of wood I was burning.

So the past few weeks have been mild so I have been setting my temp over night at 165 at 9:30 pm getting up at 5am  filling furnace at 6am 7-8 hrs house has been warm coals and maybe a piece left over last night I set temp at 175 outside temp around 10deg at 5am notice house was a little chilly checked furnace nothing but coals and temp was dropped to 140 so I gotta say I believe after only 2 months of heating last yr with this furnace and a lot of upgrades during down time and I'm only getting about 6 hrs I'd say I'm undersized... I'm a bit pissed off
