water level sight glass valve
« on: November 03, 2011, 11:39:36 AM »

I am buildimg my unit and need a water level sight glass valve, The same that are on the Central Boiler units.  Open the valve, check water , then close the valve and the sight glass water drains out.  I am having a tough time finding a valve like that.  HELP
,    or does anyone have any other idea of how to do this as explained.

I'm not sure what CB uses on their stoves. I would either get one from them or look in a Grainger catalog.might even consider sight glasses for hydraulic tanks.
Or you could do like I did and put in a liquid level switch.the switch comes on at the desired low water level to turn on a stack light on top of my stove.I can see the light from the house or when I come down my drive.

you can make yourself with a couple regular valves 3/8 or 1/4 inch and use the clear rubber hose instead of glass (like the drain hose for a/c)...its cheap and works great and that hose is replaceble if for some reason you need to replace it.
one valve to fill with water and one valve to drain the water after you checked the level (so it wont freeze)

I also used clear tubing as a sight glass.  It is held in place with barbed fittings.  A three way ball valve could both fill and then drain the tube.
