Unhappy Campers
« on: April 24, 2014, 01:02:09 PM »

Cant win this year i guess, wife told me to shutdown the boiler because it was making the house to hot when it hit 60 outside. Then wants to know why the water isnt as hot as it was all winter.( no boiler have too turn propane on) Then this morning wakes me up and tells me i need to start the boiler, its cold. Go look at the water temp 90 degrees after three days of no fire :bash: Cardboard fire it is, now running wide open. You would think after only three days of no burning you wouldnt miss that gasification flame, shure was nice to watch it roar.

Sounds like my wife, her mind is changing always and when she gets an idea, well there is no talking her out of it!

JUST A SUGGESTION, teach her how to feed the beast (OWB), then she can make it as hot or comfortable as she wants.

...or you just might find out how comfortable the couch is, for even suggesting!

Mine does the same, surprising how much heat can radiate off the lines and what not in the basement. This time of year if she gets too warm we open a few windows.

It is still cold enough here in Maine that I have not done this yet but I put my circulator on a light timer and set it to come on 1 hr before I go to work and shut off 3 hrs later and then to come back on 1 hr before I get home and back off 6 hrs later that way the boiler stays hot and you get hot water and heat add wood when needed

Maybe finding a way to wire it so the circ doesn't run all the time, just on a call for heat would help not overheat things. Even a variable speed circ would help some.

We really don't worry about it that much, if it's getting warm enough outside thats it's getting too warm inside, time to start opening windows and getting some fresh air in after along winter.

What I did was insulated my ped lines in the basement and cut a wall switch in our master bathroom that controls the boiler circ pump. This way the house don't get hot on mild days and when she wants a hot shower she just flips the switch on and when she's done with the shower she turns it off. Works pretty slick

That's a good idea victor.     You have a plate exchanger I take it  not a side arm

If you see the tankless water heaters, they have this too. As an option, in Europe its standard. You have a full control panel at your shower. So you only make hot water when you need it.

Just because wood is an easy resource doesn't mean its good practice to waste.

Yes a 20 plate. The setup works great. If we get a low of 40 night I flip the switch on and go to bed.
