Adjusting water temp and temp swings in moderate weather
« on: October 26, 2014, 01:36:27 PM »

Just wondering if any of you change your temp settings. Or shorten up your swings on your stoves in the moderate weather. I found what I really like in the winter months, but this time of year kind of puzzles me. Winter months 180 with a 15 degree swing is ideal, but what about now when it's around 55 in the day and 30's at night?

Personally I think you are running pretty cold with a very wide swing, I run our stuff at least 185 with a 5 degree differential, check with your manufacturer though as it could become an issue with some warranties.

I simply like to run our stoves really hot, I think it is better for the stove as long as the stove drops the exhaust temps, it's not wasting wood. again go with manufacturers suggested temps as some may be prone to overheating.

Is there a way to adjust the aqua stat on a hardy H-4? It's on 164-174, I would like to go to a 5 degree differential if possible. It's a Honeywell.

Yes Walker there is. Take the cover off, there is the main dial to set your stove temp. I like 180 with 5 diff. Now when you have the cover off look down at the bottom of the innerds on the right hand side there should be a small I think white dial, this is where you set your diff temp.

Do you think it will make a difference in wood consumption?

I'll let you know when it leaks, then when I get a new one I will run 180.
