Title: Installing bleeder valve.

This is my first attempt at installing supply and return lines. My pump is in the basement about half way between OWF and heat exchanger.Where should I put a valve in case I need to bleed air from the system? Total distance is about 50 feet. Also, after I suspended my heat exchanger above the oil furnace on the "after blower" side I have a stronger than normal fuel oil smell when the furnace kicks in. I know this will not be there after I shut down the oil furnace and fire up the OWF but am I restricting normal flow in some way?

If you are getting an oil smell, the heat exchanger in your oil furnace is cracked or the oil burner needs cleaning, get a pro to service the oil burner before you kill your family, seriously.

air bleeders go high in the system, ideally the highest point and any dead head that won't get flow.

If the furnace is higher than the pump then you shouldn't need a air bleeder on a 50ft run. If the pump is the high spot on the system you need to seriously need to consider moving it out onto the furnace.
