Stay far away from wood doctor! They are a global hydronics stove, Many many issue with them. research this site under hawken and global. The new hawken stoves seem to be fine, i have one and it has been flawless. If i had to do it over again, hmmmmm I think i would give geo themarel a try with the current tax credits its almost a non brainer.

He1100 would be under sized for all your needs. go with the 2100 and you will be move then happy. for the record with the highs in the 40s i'm getting 24 hour burn times between loads. thats including hot water, mind you i have 5 girls. So you can imagine the laundry and showers at our house. I heat a 2000sq ft tri-level all 3 floors are set at 72 degrees.

how was the proformance of your hawken this year? an update of those who have had troubles in the past would be nice. I'm burning till april 3rd am. then i swith to propane, the average temp of that day is the same as the day i fired that dragon up this winter. The 2 happiest days of the year for me are the days i start it and the day she goes to sleep for the summer.

I have a hawken energy he2100. I love it, this stove is not made by global. despite what has been said on this board, i have no complaints with the service or from hawken energy. when i was looking as well price was a factor. Hawken was 2500 cheaper then all the others.

I agree, that seems alot more then what you should use. Unless you have a monster house. I heat hot water along with 2000 sq tri-level with 5 girls! that just love to shower and do laundry! I only load 10 quarter splits 18 inches long for a 12-14 hour burns, I will have a couple pieces left in the morning and evening.

Sounds like you  have plenty of questions. My experience is that you can overfill the unit and burn more then you need. Some may disagree however i have found it to be true. I load what i can burn in a 12 hr burn time, which equalls to about a nice size wheel barrel full. Of course its not small branches, but some nice size quarter splits with some decent meat on it. And Yes i burn Ash, Thats all i burn at the moment, its easy to come by. I have the same model you have and just love it! Anymore issue feel free to send me a message, just here in my office there are 3 very happy Hawken owners.

i have just recently noticed that mine is making some black sludge around the door gasket as well. could you share with me some of the flaws that you have discovered. I load mine twice a day and get a steady 12 hour burn time at all temps.

things went great. We just had the install last weekend and i could not be happier. Since my purchase I have sold 2 stoves for my dealer to co-workers that live in the same area. due to my sales pitch my local dealer gave me enough money to buy 5 face cord of seasoned hard wood for this winter. took about 2 hours to get up to temp but once it did i could hardly see any smoke. can't wait to watch that propane truck drive by this winter while i am warm on my couch watching the vest destory michigan again this year. Man i miss John Cooper!.

Can anyone share advice on plumbing a water to water exchanger into thier existing boiler system?  Looking for descriptions and or photos of how to put in the heat exchanger.

thanks,
steve

The water to water exchanger is installed in the return line to your boiler. You then change your Aquastat setting from 160 on the low end to about 140 and keep you high setting at 180. When your thermostat calls for heat in your home your pump on your in home boiler will come on to transfer the heat from your OWB into your system. If your OWB is depleted of wood and is below the 140 temp your in home boiler will kick on for your back up. Not to mention the water to water transfer will keep your outdoor water from freezing as long as your OWB pump is working.

I am going to be placing my unit about 70 feet from the house. my only concern at this point is the location is down grade approx 3 1/2 to my boiler room. the pump will do 30 gallons a min, is this going to be an issue? if so what are my options?

Well i have just put a deposit on the new he-2100 hawken! I can't wait to watch a propane truck just drive by as i smile knowing my money is not going to the oil rich nations of the world. FREEDOM! I can't wait to start to save! I used 1600 gallons of propane last year @ 1.59 a gallon this years rates i have been quoted at 2.39-2.69 a gallon. This fall i will be adding some addtional insulation to my tri-level home in the thumb area of michigan to save even more.
