Glad I saw this Scott, I will have to put in a call to Craig. I'm thinking the aquastat cover is due to failures in cold weather last winter.

I still blame this whole problem on the idiots who first started the claims that you can burn green wood, and the idiots that continue to do it. I have never seen smoke anywhere near that which is shown in the article come out of my chimney on mine.

Slimjim, as far as I know Greenwood is done. I was looking at a Greenwood at a store near me ( Ben's for you locals) over a year ago. They were selling the last few CHEAP with no warranty just to get rid of them. I asked the salesman about them he said they were out of business due to some money problems, but they were trying to get something going again. Whether they ever did I don't know. This article has 2011 on it though.

Lots of ways you can look at this. Can anyone really predict 100% who will be around in 10 years? I've seen huge companies shut down overnight due to a stupid car crash. Nobody knows where this thing with the economy prevention a##holes will end up for sure. The way I looked at it, I was going to build one and ran out of time. Who would have fixed it then? Me. So worse comes to worse, and you don't weld, call a local mobile welder. You can buy a reasonably priced unit like this and still  put money into it in the future and be money ahead of a higher priced one, and look at the lp savings these will provide. All the way around there is money staying in your pocket.

I ran mine all last summer for dhw. Never once did it fail to take off. As previously stated as long as there is a coal bed, it wouldn't surprise me if an owb could go 12 hours or better and still fire off again. I wouldn't bother with a fan, just one more thing that could fail, and that you will need to keep in stock for such an occasion.

Simple, reliable and affordable. At $5550 total for install with concrete slab and machine rental, it will probably pay for itself twice this year alone due to very cold temps and skyrocketing lp prices. Heating two buildings +dhw. I was was just asked the other day by a man that was considering one if I would buy one again. That is actually a pretty serious question if you think about it. My answer? I'd do it again and again. Wood consumption seems to be right in line with others close by with similar loads demands. Builder is very accessible if you need him.

How about Oprah?  Depending on the temperature, some days she eats a lot (of fuel), other days she doesn't!
Probably is full of as much hot air, too.

NO!! I don't want another Stihl, lol! This one will be gone soon. Haven't touched it since probably early September. Glad to hear the grease thing is working for you. Hopefully that little Efco works out, can't beat the price you got it for! I was just at the hardware yesterday, got talking with the owner about them again, he says they seem to be holding up, very little repair issues coming back.

Nstueve, I did look that up I guess it is lighter than I thought. For some reason I was thinking it was closer to the 64. I was wondering if the 61 was going to usher in a new line for epa and strato etc etc. I would like to see them come back with a big gun again, 100cc or so would be nice. Then I can go mess with my cousin and chase his 066 around the woods, lol. Why do you need a blue 6100 shipped from overseas? I thought Bailey's had them available? If not, I'd almost ask 7, I bet he'd help you.

That's hilarious about the huge flippy cap stock pile! I've thought for years they were just doing it for profit. If Stihl makes a dollar profit off each one, and I'm sure its more, pretty good pocket dipper they got there.

Mlappin, that's what we do here. I even run the neighbor's when he's at work. Normal days no need, but when its as cold as its been lately and the wind starts blowing, I just run next door around 1 and throw some in to make sure he's good til supper time. He helps me out too. Nice to have good neighbors. From what I hear, that's not easy to find, so I guess I lucked out big time.

Roger, I know that climb out of bed speed race all to well! I grew up in the old farm house my dad was born and raised in, when Grandpa heated with fuel oil it wasn't so bad. There was an oil stove that fed a chimney and grate right through the bed rooms. Well, Dad didn't run that oil stove until it was below zero with a brisk wind. We ran a wood stove in the kitchen that kept the downstairs nice and toasty, but I could freeze a glass of water overnight in my bedroom! It was good sleeping in the cold, but man, you didn't want to get up. I'd lay there and get my courage built up, then throw the covers off and FLY down those stairs to the kitchen where my clothes were waiting on a chair by the wood stove! I don't know if I'm messed up in the head, but I miss those days.

A big thanks to the mods! Now, I wonder if it would be possible to move some of the threads that are floating around general discussion to this page so they are easier to find for newcomers with questions?

Fire Wood / Re: TYPE of CHAIN SAWS USED
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:12:01 PM »
Saw update. I replaced the Stihl 210 with a Dolmar 421a few weeks ago. Great little companion for the 6421. No more Stihl, no more flippy caps. Life is good. 421 has 1hp more, just what the doctor ordered, great little limbing saw. I've actually been using it in bigger wood than I had planned due to the light weight and its abilities. If anyone has been considering a 421, you won't be disappointed.

I liked the flippy caps at first, but after a few fill ups unless you blow em off first you tend to get more crud in your tanks. I'm going to start carrying a can of ether or something to spray around the caps before taking them off if a air hose isn't handy.
Always have a paint brush with me for that exact purpose. Unfortunately, that is the least of my concerns with a flippy cap. They just #### me off all the way around. They are a solution in search of a problem. Aside from the fact that they suck to get locked if you overfill by three drops, they leak, and they fall apart. Now why in the world should a cap be built to fall apart?

Mlappin- I love the 120super and the si. 120si is the one that sold me on the Dollys 20 some years ago. Would love another one some day. Don't know why I ever parted with the first one. Good old saws. I was logging at the time, can't even begin to guess how much wood that saw went through, and NEVER so much as had a hiccup or a burp.

Equipment / Re: Traded a junk lawn mower for a trailer

If you are going to strip it and make a wood hauler, why not just make all your modifications to it and get an assembled title? Could save a lot of hassle, and it really will be assembled after you are done since it will be a completely different trailer than original.

Nstueve, did you find a 6100 in smurf blue to match the rest of your collection, lol? I have been watching them talk about them at the other site a little, but would like to run one. You seem impressed with the weight, but I've been questioning why they made it. .1 HP less and the weight is shown almost the same. I'd like to know more about them. Is it noticeably lighter than a 64? It may be a good excuse to buy one as an in betweener and BB the 6421? Aaarrrrggghh. There goes the CAD again. :bash:

I saw something on another forum today, they said $4.99/gal in IL with a 200 gal limit. I can't even imagine having to pay that. I really feel for people that are on a tight budget already. The McMansion crowd with the huge houses, eh, not so much. They built to impress, they can throw that "impressive" bill out there at the Superbowl for their friends.

That would be pretty cool to have. Neat watching real time temps. I definitely don't want to know the cost though.
