Turning Pumps On
« on: September 09, 2016, 06:21:03 PM »

How often during the "off" season (for those of us which do not burn other than winter) do you run your pumps to "exercise" the system?

I turn mine on for the weekend only as the hydro is "less expensive".  :bash: :bag:

We leave the pumps on year round, one at each house and one at the back of the furnace so the water is always circulating

Just out of curiosity, why? If your water is hard enough that it could cause a pump to stick from sitting because of sludge, iron, calcium or other sediment, you’re gonna have other problems as well regardless if the pumps run all the time or not.

Just going by what dealer advised, maybe to keep any deposits from settling around the water jacket?

Okay, thats a good a reason as any other I’ve heard, your dealer would certainly know the water in the area.

Here water can vary greatly, can’t hardly even drink the neighbors water a mile behind us, tastes like match heads, another to the east of us has terrible iron problems, ours is pretty good other than a little calcium or lime that the softener has no problems getting out.

I turn mine on once every month. On my old furnace of 13 years, never turned it on during summer, same pump still works, I saved it as a back up for this furnace.
