So I hired a guy (referral) to cut and split 8 cord and throw in a pile last fall. Told him 24" I have been stacking in my rack as its melting and average length is 16". Kinda pi$$es me of. I know it will all burn but.
Am I to picky with my wood length? Been throwing the shorts in a pile. Shoulder season I guess.

Yeah I had a droid cut 3 cord for me I even spray painted it where to cut, let me say that again I Spray painted it and laid it all out with the bobcat across the yard. Half was long would not fit in the splitter. The other half shorter than I wanted and then a bunch of 6 inch ends I had to cut off. Needless to say I did not have him back. No your not being picky you paid for a job and expect it right It cannot be that hard to cut it to length.

I would say you aren't being too picky. I am not sure why the guy would want to cut every 16" instead of every 24". He could have saved himself quite a few cuts in 8 cords. The wood I cut for myself to burn I cut 20-24" the wood I sell I cut 16-18". When I am cutting it at 16" I notice there are more times I come up to the end of a log and I have 8-12". When cutting them longer I only have to pay attention when I get to the last three pieces and I can usually make it come out.

I had thought it would have been less cuts since the wood was all 8 ft long, burning the short stuff now for shoulder season, who knows maybe I will batch burn this summer just to get rid of it.

I shoot for 36" ...but I end up 30- 32, and I never split a thing, I guess my calibrated eye ball, needs a tune up

I shoot for 22" when I cut, as splitter will handle 24"; and I still end up with a few 26"
...who can I blame for that??
