There's a chill in the air here midwest Ohio. Wife asked if the stove was ready for the winter. Anybody burning yet??
-
just fired up yester day for test run
-
31 degrees here at the Fryburg Fair this morning, I had better get out of the bus and fire up the show boiler, the security guards look cold.
-
I'll be starting mine up today :-\
-
I lit a fire in her about an hour ago
-
up and running here.
-
Well I was contemplating holding off for another week but since reading this I'm gonna fire her up tomorrow when I get off work! My 500 gallon propane tank is reading 5%, haven't filled it in 2 years and looks like I won't fill it until next May or when I shut down boiler
-
ive been running since Oct 1st! had a cold snap and said screw it!!! now its getting warmer but im not shutting down...just burning junk pine and poplar while the weather is mild, ill save the good stuff for when it gets COLD again
-
right back up int the seventies this week here, no point in it yet.
-
Nope, It's been in the 60's, & 70's the last few weeks, more of the same next week for Wisconsin.
My brother started his new P&M BL 2840 last weekend, he said it was 91 degrees in his pole shed Monday from in floor heat. He lives 20 miles South of me.
-
I had my bl2840 running last weekend but turned it off on Monday. going to be cool tonight but warm during the day for the rest of the weekend - looking like it will be another week before I turn it on again - this time for the rest of the season.
-
Never shut ours down. Heated DHW all summer long with about about 1 cord of wood. Turned two valves on the heat exchanger last week. House and barn stays warm. Life is good in southern Indiana!
-
I'm gonna fire mine up today after I get home from work.
-
I got 20" of snow in one note ...all melted and its been in the high 30's in the day time , I'm holding off !
-
Fired up today all was good till my solenoid failed to open my draft. Good thing I have a spare. Got 2 seasons out of it. No big deal all is good now.
-
I couldn't wait any longer for the weather to turn cold, went ahead and started'r up yesterday morning. Figured 40's & 50's for daytime highs & upcoming 20's for overnight lows was close enough. Went off without a hitch.
I forgot how well this P&M maintains it's heat with very little wood in the firebox.
-
Have a couple nights of possible frost thru the weekend, highs back in the 70’s by tuesday, still not worth firing up.
-
In western Wisconsin here, I started a small fire yesterday morning because:
A. Well... It was cold out.
B. I had to much cardboard to get rid of.
But I'm not counting that as the "first fire" for the season.
I keep track of all my first and last fires on this forum so it's easy to find each year.
Feel free to add to it if you want.

First fire today. Probably not running for the season yet. Still need to finish up the radiant loop I've working on.
-
Not yet even though it will be 35 in the morning. House maintaining a nice 67. 70/40 all next week. Maybe the following week. Looking forward to turning red oak into ashes. Stay warm...
-
Not yet, been holding off as it has been warmer than usual. Got our first snow this weekend but supposed to be in the upper 50's tomorrow. My boiler is ready to go, and I have been cutting the rest of last years logs and ordered 20 more cords today when I ran into the wood guy in town. Propane cost me .99 cents this fall, so I am holding off for a few weeks on lighting my boiler.

Sunday..the 25th oct at 11am ...here I go
-
Been fired up for a week highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s wanted the hot water, wife did not want to wait. Today cold and rainy high 50. 8)

I have been running since the second week of oct. and will not be turning off until May - had some warm days - so just using for hot water - but has started to get cooler now and furnace is on. Have 32 face cords so I'm good for the season
-
Starting her up today. I'll go ahead and say it now... How soon one forgets how nice warm floors feel in the morning. Stay warm...
-
Fired up around mid October, warm days just shut the furnace off.Getting cooler now so creosote can get burnt off
-
Delay in plans. Got too busy on Saturday. Actually looked at the forecast and found out in the mid 70's here next week. Cold next weekend. Shooting for Friday again. Stay warm...
-
Fired mine up today for an experiment.
Measured out 250lbs of wood.
Started a fire and timed it, 5 hours and 45 minutes later the fire is starting to burn down.
Water is still ticking up a degree or two albeit very slowly now.
Wood boiler is at 149, the 450 gallon waste oil boiler is up to 132 thru a 50 plate FPHE.
Highest stack temp I’ve seen is 617F, has averaged around 500 degrees most of the time.
Will repeat when I have a gasser in place.
No other heat load on it other than heating the 450 gallons in the shop.
-
Been warm here until this week and it dropped below freezing at nights and 32 during the day. That and 4 inches of snow last night got me to fire it up today mainly to heat my garage and breezeway. Will be nice to have the hot water again, can't wait to shut my electric hot water heater off!
-
been going for two weeks.burning junk.
-
Fired her up Friday the 13th. Thought if something was going to go wrong, that would be the day. No issues so far. House and shop are great. Installed me a 120V LED on the front and wired to my blower. Now I can look down towards the boiler and know when the fan is running. Although warm, no more long waits in the shop for the fan to come on (less smoke). Now I make coffee and wait till the light is green. Stay warm...
