Anyone's ultimizer doing this?
« on: February 17, 2016, 07:10:55 PM »

Went to feed the fire the other morning and was pretty surprised. The caulk around the ash pan door was turned into dust. Everything seemed to be working fine, and still is. Now when the fan is on, I can feel the air blowing out around the the opening. Not thru the door.

I assume the caulk is to prevent water infiltration. But maybe it is to seal the air in.

I would think the caulking is there to seal between the coloured siding and the ash pan door to keep water out, more for looks. I would have a closer look at your door gasket or hinge area. I am thinking there is a problem there and the heat coming out burnt the caulk.

Yes the caulk is just a water seal. Hot air escaping through the gasket must have baked the caulk. You should be able to slightly adjust the ash pan door, loosen the nuts on the hinge bolts, push that end of the door in a bit and retighten the nuts. That should do the trick.
