Plumbing / Re: Side arm not impressed any suggestions
« on: February 29, 2016, 08:31:08 PM »
my last side arm plugged with hard water.  It had numerous small tubes inside a large tube.  That made it better because of increased surface area but it plugged because of small tubes and hard water.

Now I just have a 20 plate on cold side of water heater  and no side arm at all.  Works great.  Plus have a water softener now.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / good top loader?
« on: February 05, 2016, 06:44:41 PM »
anyone know of a good quality top loader being built?

This would be for commercial application at welding shop.

The only two I could find were Shaver (no way) and Hoss (not much info found). Any others?

I'm with gspren, just not into jewelry.

Plus as a paramedic for past 20 years just seen too many fingers torn up from wedding rings getting caught.  But, I've seen a bunch of motorcycle accidents too and still ride. :P

I had an aluminum  scoop shovel that I drilled about 50- 1/2" holes in it.  I'd scoop up a bunch of ashes and shake it in the stove. Most of the ash would fall through and leave the coals in shovel.   Then, I'd throw the coals to one side and scoop out the ashes with another shovel.

Now, I just shake the grates, priceless.

Agreed mlappin,  I haven't had a G series.  That probably would have been next stove had I stayed in town.

As a tree service guy, I don't really think about quantity as much as I would if I had to go get it all on my own time.  Right now I actually wish I was burning more wood because I have so much lying around and its probably gonna rot before I get to it.  Next year should have a shop built so that will eat some wood.

Cando,
How far is your barn to the house?

If not too far, maybe just get a bigger stove and heat both with the same fire?

I wouldn't get another gasser. I've had a couple and now have the old style. Wouldn't go back to a gasser unless it was only option to burn wood.

Keep in mind as you ask for feedback that most people will say that what they are running is awesome.  When you spend that much money on something, it has to be great.

Equipment / Re: 460 rancher bar length ?
« on: January 19, 2016, 09:11:59 PM »
seems like most chainsaws are sold with a longish bar for the saw.

I usually go with a bigger motor and shorter bar for best performance.

I think they are sold this way because as you may have noticed, people say they have a 20" chainsaw, not that they have a 60cc saw.  Drives me nuts.

My 372 husky has had an 18 inch bar all the way up to a 32 inch bar on it at different times. Once I even put a 18 inch bar on my 395xp (94cc) just for giggles  >:D

Smells good too!

I ran a Ford 7.3 on it for 200k miles, always  loved the exhaust.3

Ive installed some factory built outdoor wood furnaces like you are making.  And my cousin has an indoor Clayton 1600 out in a shed with hot air piped to his trailer home about 10 feet from the furnace shed.

Insulation is always a good thing.

Plus, you'll want to pull a cold air return from the garage back to the wood stove to be rewarmed.  That way you'll have good circulation, less moisture, and warmer air than trying to bring up outside air temp air and then pumping it in garage.

HeatMaster / Re: WOW!!-14 Hour burn time unheard of before
« on: January 15, 2016, 07:24:33 AM »
I have MF10000E now.  Yes, I'm happy with it and Yes I've owned other boilers plus have much experience with friends and family boilers.  All different brands and designs.

Mr Maple, glad you are happy with your boiler.  Part of my decision was based on your experiences with other brands that you've had on the same property and same heat load comparisons. Thanks.

I''m kind of a "modder", someone who has to modify everything they buy to make it "better".  But, I don't have any plans for this boiler because it is just right the way it is.

Happy burning all.

WE moved this (last) year to rurals and filled the propane tank at 1.01$ per gallon and locked in a contract at 1.48$ for two years.   I said, " why hook up the boiler at all this year?"

By November I couldn't stand looking at that boiler not running.   So, its hooked up and running.  It will take a few more years to pay itself off now  that propane is cheap.

HeatMaster / Re: Loading every 8 hours
« on: December 28, 2015, 07:48:40 PM »
huh, I'm surprised no one has commented here.  If you look around the forum, there have been similar threads you could browse.

Basically you have just a few variances.  BTU vs. load.

3000 ft is quite a bit for that stove, depending of course on outside temp and wind.

So, to increase burn times you have to do something:

-put more wood in per load
-get a bigger stove-
-lower demand by lowering temp of house
-increase insulation of house
-assuming no water intrusion of underground pipes

did you buy stove new or did you move into house that had it already?  You could ask previous owner about it if its used.

Fire Wood / Re: Not impressed with Husqvarna 372
« on: December 28, 2015, 07:34:56 PM »
Hey if you are sick of that 372, I'll take it off your hands.

Tree service here so day in and day out use. We have an older 372xp that is the oldest saw in the truck and still a first line saw after 15 years-  ALL year long.

Now, that being said, I also have a 394xp and 395xp.  The 395xp is just the newer version of 394.  And the 395 is at home as a spare because the 394xp just won't die and feels more powerful.

I ramble.

Equipment / Re: Rugged Made Splitters
« on: December 04, 2015, 04:03:08 PM »
I agree with Bondo.

I too have the Northern 37 ton machine.  I had  the previous 37 ton splitter also and Bondo is correct, they have fixed the flaws of the early ones.

Honda 270cc I believe.

Very happy with it, probably overkill and heavier to move around than really needed but very strong.

My $.02 would be go to Northern and catch a sale.   I paid 1899$ and picked it up at store.  The Honda is worth that difference.
