heatmeater 5000 fan speed
« on: November 28, 2014, 05:00:25 PM »

just wondering, ive never played around with the fan speed on the back of the furnace, mine is set around 50\%, is there much of a difference if it is lowered, would I get a little longer burn time....today i was at a friends house and his was set at 15% and I was a little shocked and got me thinking...

100% or you take a chance of replacing a fan.

thanks for the reply Yoder, so what will the outcome be if i put it at 100%, more air, will the wood burn faster, ive never had an issue with the blower before,is there any benefits to adjusting the lever to 100%, just curious and thanks again...

Wait,  are you talking about fan speed or the damper setting. Damper settings can be adjusted depending on what works best for you. But on the models that had the dimmer switch to control fan speed they should always be left on 100%.
If you are talking about the adjustable dampers in the back I normally recommend starting a E or C model on 100% and the standard MF models on 50%.

It just adjusts the amount of air that flows into the fire. On the more efficient models there is the extra bypasses to capture the heat produced if you burn the fire hotter by giving it more air.

I had my 5000e on 100% since October.  I was playing around with the damper last night and I moved it back to 70%.  The fire seems to burn much hotter than it did on 100.  I think it was pushing in too much air.  I'm going to leave it on 70% for a few days and see if it makes a difference.
