Title: Flapper on blower not opening
Post by: OHBurning on December 25, 2017, 09:30:05 AM
Anyone have issues with the flapper not opening when the blower kicks on?  I have caught it a couple times by hearing a buzzing sound when the blower is on.  When I shut the blower off with the switch and turn it back on, the flapper then opens.  Fire went out last night on a cold night because of the flapper not opening. Is there a good way to clean the solenoid or does it need replaced?

Thanks

Next time it does it turn it off, then see if the flapper is stuck from creosote. Could be when you turn it back on the solenoid breaks it lose.

I agree, next time it sticks try to lift it by hand before you turn it off and on. See if the resistance is in the solenoid or the flap. Also I think woodmaster uses a rubber hinge of sorts on the flapper, I've seen it get brittle over the years and hang up.

Yeah, I have seen the posts about the flap sticking, I have inspected the flap and didn't see any creosote.  It has happened a couple times so I don't think it is creosote buildup.  I will try lifting the flap next time it happens.  I actually bought a flap this summer as part of a maintenance kit, but I didn't like it was in bad shape at all.   I manually pushed the solenoid in and it didn't feel like it was sliding freely.

thanks for your help!
