HeatMaster / Re: wood in front burning up..

Sometimes we put a 11"x14" 1/4 steel plate on the front grate. This keeps the heat off the front door and gets the air back farther. good for a better coal burn too.

I've done this before also.  Works pretty well.

Yep, been doing that all this season.  Works a lot better than stacking it long ways.  I'm not sure if it would be beneficial in a 100 or 200 though.

If it doesn't stop smoking, you might want to check the air passages on the refractory on the bottom of the firebox.  Sometimes these can clog and won't allow enough air into the lower chamber.

If downwind from my G400 you can sometimes just barely catch a whiff of that campfire smell, most of the time you don’t smell anything.

I have become addicted to the smell of my G400 when it is gassing.  It's got a very distinct smell that doesn't smell like smoke at all.

Gents, if you have a dollar general where you live, go there and buy some cleaner called LAs totally awesome cleaner.  It's $1 and is the best product I have found to clean creosote off of the furnace.  It works wonders on the painted surfaces of a G series. I'm sure you can find it online also.

You will love a G Series compared to a conventional, I promise. Honda is correct,  $10,995 and they have $1,400 rebates on the 200 until December 31st.  So you would end up paying $9,595 if you bought one this year.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: hanging heater size
« on: October 02, 2016, 06:49:02 AM »
I agree, go bigger than you think you need.  Z-Supply builds an awesome unit heater, I've installed a few of them. It sounds like your building is hard to heat.  I would go with a 24" if it were me.

I have thought about trying this also but I know it wouldn't last long with the extreme heat.   As for the removal of the nozzle on a G Series, it's a piece of cake.

I heard it passed.   No idea on the results though.

You could try heating it up a little bit with a torch to make it softer and then scraping it off.  Where it is built up at?

Hardy / Re: looking at a lightly used H-4
« on: February 19, 2016, 10:55:21 AM »
It's been a while since I looked at the back of a Hardy, but the connection you are referring to with the auto fill valve will be your cold water inlet.  I don't remember what size they are but I believe they should be 3/4"?  To be honest with you, I wouldn't recommend using the coil on the furnace.  I would put a HX on your water heater in the house and be done with it.  It doesn't make any sense to me at all why you would send water out to the furnace to be heated and then send it all the way back into the building to be used.  All of this could be done from inside the home.

Fire Wood / Re: 290 Farm Boss
« on: January 30, 2016, 04:58:25 PM »
I've had one for about 6 years with no problems at all.  I run a 20" bar on it.  Sometimes if I'm cutting on a large oak or other hard woods it seems like it could use a little more power but it still gets the job done just fine.  I plan on buying a 441 for next year and just running a 18" bar on the 290.

Portage & Main / Re: Twins?: P&M EGR250 & Polar Furnace G3
« on: January 27, 2016, 07:09:46 AM »
The only things that similar about these two boilers are:

1) They are both Canadian made.

2) They are both gassers.

It's past my bedtime right now, but if anyone is interested, I'll post the important differences between the two tomorrow evening.

And yes, the EGR250 easily passed testing.

Please do explain the differences.

crazy...thats pretty low! how many sqare feet are u heating????

Heating about 5000 sq ft, using Logstor.
Can't believe I amgoing too say this but I am going to try some wetter wood, stuff I am using now( s maple, w. Birch and ash) is quite dry.

That might be your issue right there... especially if there is still wood in the firebox but no fire.  Maybe you don't have a good coal bed established because of the wood quality?

Elm is decent firewood.  Just as long as it's not Chinese elm.
