Well I have been running 160-165 top temp for almost this whole winter and noticed my sight glass was a slight greenish color but my chemicals tested strong enough so I wasn't concerned. Well after being tired of always brushing my chimney due to draft reduction from running cooler temps yet saving wood I realized this morning it just isn't worth saving the little wood it saves by running cooler temps. This is a attached update pic of the slime/bacteria water starting to clear up after I turned my stove up to 180 this morning as I left for work. This goes to show that bacteria will form in water running cooler than 185 like the cb technician told me over the phone when I questioned him about temps. I bet heat transfer is affected as well in the stove,exchangers etc when that slime has formed from running cooler temps than 180. I am keeping my stove at 180 from here on out after seeing this with my own eyes, and what is even stranger is when I got home I didn't notice any much more wood usage at 180 versus my 165 top temp. Turn them up guys and listen to what the studies have shown. Thanks

I wanna upload the pic just to show others there will be problems at lower temps and seeing slime in 2nd yr water treated to the T can get bacteria and slime from lower temps that can't boil off and kill the slime from forming. CB technician stated many fact findings of why they run 175-185 and now I see the light. I told you guys and gals I wouldn't be ashamed to be the idiot. That whole tube had that greenish color to it but since I turned the stove up to 180 this morning as of tonight it started seperating and getting cleared up.

As of this morning capt dipchit noticed the big difference in the rush of draft up the chimney when I opened the door. I looked inside the stove and it looks like dried potato chips to the top of the barrel and very dry inside. Couldn't belive I still had more wood left in it to last me til the end of the day today also. Turn em up

 Don't be hard on yourself Victor, I know there are many among us who have/had doubts about the temps. Many of the posts here are people "experimenting" with every piece of the wood boiler puzzle, myself included, it's a benefit to everyone to hear what works for someone or what doesn't, in a lot of ways it is better to read of someone's experience than to hear someone just tell you this is the way it has to be.

Where is the like option....   Is there ever an admin around, who takes care of the forum. Looks like the picture issue is effecting everyone.

I have noticed different regions in my travels have very different water conditions or problems. One thing always common in a good system is low moisture/humidity/etc.
That's is crazy for sure, cuz the health department requirements state at 160 everything is killed instantly in the tank.

Was the green slime through the whole water tank or just in the sight tube?
