With slabs shut down it creeps up to 15 degrees . so 140f to 160f is set point . But it creeps to 175f burning slabs I'm still tinkering with it at subzero temps outside . Oak slabs it seems to depend on how many coals are in there . more coals the more it creeps at shut down . These are dry bark free oak slabs . went thru about 3.5 bundles so far sence about 2 weeks ago. Very cold weather here . they burn way hotter then I thought they would. At this point I can not totally fill the stove gets to wild . I need to put adjustable duct on draft fans to slow things down .

Just to clarify, what is your low and high temps set on the aquastat?

This might give you a idea what burning hot is.

maybe they make it better now?, but I had a glass door fire place years ago and I would leave the draft open on cold nights and just let it roar, in early spring when cleaning out the ash one day I notice insulation in the ash, unscrewed the pipes and found the one just as the pipes exited the attic had a hole near the bottom. not sure how long it had been like this but I guess with no insulation between the layers I was lucky I never set the roof on fire!

Oo wow mines on the boiler .. it only does it when stoves going from 70 to 150f on water temp ya long burn . And if I put to big  flat piece of slabs over the grate. And at -20f .needs to be settled down a bit with draft doors on draft fans.

Ok heats going in to water now . had to block off 1/2 of the front draft fan . This means slowed down draft to under grate and above grate . Theres a lot of BTUs to deal with when comes to oak slabs

no more cherry red rain cap .. so its unbelievable how much everything had to be slowed down .
I would of never guess it had to be slowed down that much . :bag:
