been running a kero heater in the basement and one in the work shop on really cold nights,my stove just cant do it in single digets, but its does fine if you ease some of the demand.Me and the boy(25 but still a boy to me) spent a little time in the barn last night taking extra special care of the chickens and coondog, and thowin back a little more than usual keystone lights.Came down and stuffed the shaver full of awesome locust, and a chunk of coal about 12 by 15".hung out in the work shop a spell.went to bed.woke up about 5 am,sure felt awful chilly in the house wow t-stat says 59 what the heck! then it hit me I turned off the blower when we were loading.I went out and opened the door it looked the same as when we loaded it 7 hr ago.ranco said it was 80 deg that's 100 deg behind,I'm an idiot to pull that one on the coldest night so far. When I threw the blower on it was a real fireworks show for about half an hr it was trowing sparks about 10 ft in the air.took about 3 hr to catch up.Told the boy this morn I guess were not total dumba$$s we did remember to bring the keystones in off the back porch so they wouldn't freze I don't think Im the only one to ever pull that stunt, and I probly wont repeat it,But you never can know when dealing with an idiot.hope everyone else is staying warm.

Fire Wood / seasoned wood
« on: January 12, 2014, 06:39:47 AM »
Made a deal with a guy couple weeks ago for 4 cords at 140 each,He brought out the first cord last week it was after dark him and my boy pitched it out.He said its tops that have been down 2 yr.He is cutting it to length spliitin and hauling it to me same day.I go out and look at it next morning, its not what I call seasond wood its pretty heavy still. so I guess my question is how long does it take for tops to  season.I talked to an old buddy of a couple days ago said he read some where that a cut log will only season about 1/2 " a year. The quality of the wood is ex all oak, cherry, hickory.whats your thoughts on how long it takes for a log to season proper?

Shaver Furnace / temp differental on auqastat
« on: November 25, 2013, 04:55:22 PM »
what is the thought process on what to set the auqastat too.The last couple years I have set my temp at 175*blower comes on at 173.from what I been reading most have theres set at 10 or 15 for blower to come on.at my 2* diff the blower comes on for 5 /6 min to catch up.the blower comes on about every 25/30min.when my stove gets behind 15*  it runs a long time to catch up sometimes 40 min seems like it just blows a lot of btus up the stack. I don't really know whats the best way to set it.I know some of you guys out can give some reasoning on that. Thanks, Dwight

Shaver Furnace / heat exchanger question
« on: November 04, 2013, 10:50:12 AM »
noticed something today when I was changing the furnace filter.there is about 2" on each end of the heat exchanger that is wide open seems like that would let a lot of air bypass the coils. is that something worth trying to remedy or is it not a big deal?thanks for any input D

It wasn't running at all when it was still installed water lines wer cool.Just wanderin if they get weak and wont run under a load I checked the conections and the outlet before takin it off.Whats your thoughts? Shaver Furnace / shaver nightmares
« on: September 21, 2013, 08:58:51 PM »
hello been reading about all the shaver problems for a while now you guys got me scared. going into my 4th winter with a shaver 165 and haven't had any big problems yet, knock on wood.any ideas about flushing out the tank? I drained it out last week for the first time it was pretty clear.filled it back up and it was nasty rusty brown, opened up the drain again and flushed with the hose as it drained never cleared back up.think maybe I just stired up a bunch of gunk from the bottom, not sure if the drain is up from the bottom some and cant drain completely.what's your thoughts.
