Just received my 7500 yesterday.  Can't wait for it to get daylight so I can start going through all of the materials.  The entire staff at Ridgewood could not have been more helpful.  A sincerely nice group of people.  I am looking forward to working with them in the future.  A question to the other Ridgewood owners, does installing grates in the firebox make any sense at all.  I know other companies install them and would like the opinions of folks who have already burned with Ridgewood.  Thanks for all on this site who have already helped with so many questions.  I am feeling more questions will be on there way as I begin the install.

That would make to hard to clean the ash out.  Don't think it would be a good idea.   I take a few shovels of ash out  like every couple weeks and it's good.

I agree with Automan........I like to take a few shovels of just ash everyday or so.......leaving the coal bed, then I pull the coal bed forward toward the door. That works good for me. A grate would have to be custom made to fit the contour of the firebox and I feel would get in the way of managing the ash/coal bed. Just my three cents......

Thank you guys very much.  Finished a crappy fence project today and am going to start on the 7500 install tomorrow.  I certainly appreciate your comments and help.

As the others said, fire always burns better on its own bed of coals/ashes. The wood will burn down more completely to a fine grey ash.
Move the coals aside, shovel some of the fine ash out every couple of weeks, rake the coals back, and your good to go.
