Title: Damper position issue
Post by: reggart on November 13, 2019, 12:52:20 PM
I have a problem with my G200. It's only a couple years old but only has been ru6for one year. Situation:
Start a fire, get boiler up to setpoint and leave. Come back, boiler no longer meeting setpoint, open up firebox and see wood is just smoldering. Damper position is 38% but water temperature is 140 deg.  I have to turn it off and turn it back on to get it to open to 100%. This is getting very frustrating. It just started doing this in the past couple weeks. I noted that there is some tar around the damper and it doesnt turn to open in a smooth fashion, acts like the tar is gumming it up a little.

What is the MFG date of your stove? It should have year and month on the label on the side of the stove.

Did you clean the damper plate? If not, that is where I would start. Remove it and clean completely. I like to coat heavily with dry lube before putting back together. (something like this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Blaster-9-3-oz-Advanced-Dry-Lube-with-Teflon-16-TDL/202532762 )

Thanks I'll give that a try. It was delivered to my place late summer 2017. I ordered it spring of 2017.

Like RSI said, clean and lube the plate. I mark which way is up before taking it off.

Check out my posts.  I had the same issue with the old damper plate.  They sent me the new one, and I have had no issues since.  You can clean the old one and it will work, but it can't be trusted.

Take it off and clean it, then lube with ATF. If its a consistent problem contact your dealer about a updated airbox.

I used to clean it once a week on the original airbox, takes five minutes or less once you’ve done it several times. Still less time than i spent on my conventional keeping the area under the stack cleaned out so it would plug shut.

I also use ATF and it works great.
