just bought a house with a wood master 434. i was wondering how to set the water temperature? any suggestions, i know almost nothing of this system.
-
to be more specific:
i have been using the 434 all winter this year with trial & error success. the system seems to be set up to run in conjunction with a gas furnace. my gas bill is still higher than i would expect for amount of wood we consume. i turned gas off to the furnace a few days ago and hoped the 434 would heat the house alone. i have had trouble getting the water temp from the stove to raise above 90-110 degrees.

I think we need more info. I'm not familiar with the 434 but I can't see any reason why you can't heat your home solely with the wood stove. First off, has everything been cleaned up good?, all vents and draft fan and chimney clear and workiing properly?? Can you see the setting of the aquastat?? Usually set around 180 or so. Also, guys out here would be looking to know what size pump you have feeding the home, location of the pump and the size and length of the water lines. Also how is it connected to the gas furnace, I assume a water/air HX??, or is it a gas boiler?
The more details you can provide the easier it is to make suggestions.

is the fan coming on? if not a couple thing to look at. remove the back cover theres a thermostate on the back look what its set at mine is set to turn fan on at 150 off at around 170 but depends on size of house . If the fan comes on make sure the little damper on the front of the door is opening sometimes just alittle wd40 or 3 in one oil works(to get to the fan on the 434 you need to remove the cover on the front of the door) maybe the damper isnt opening thats why its not burning hotter. Hope this helps. Paul

replaced my old 434 with a 3300 working great other than the chimney fires, old one didnt do this. someone help explain this. thanks
-
Welcome back. If you have a lot of creosote built up in your chimney it will catch fire. I do this deliberately once a year before I brush it out. I stack the stove with clean cardboard light it and keep the ash pan cracked open and let it burn.

woods dry 1 1/2 yrs and undercover, hardly and cresote but still getting chimney fires at a loss for explaining it. always does it about a half hour after i fill it , flames probley 2 ft about extended chimney.

If I remember correctly that stove used a Dayton blower fan on the front door. Is there an adjustment on that fan? My stove uses the same fan and there is a small plate in the rear of the fan between the stove and the output of the fan. I noticed mine would throw sparks everywhere when this air adjustment was wide open from the factory. Just something you could take a look at. Maybe one of the veterans will chime in that know these stoves really well.

My dad burned a woodmaster for quite a few years. Sounds like too much draft. Blows in the door, over the wood and straight up the chimney. As was mentioned, damper down with the plate.
