General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Shutting Down
« on: April 09, 2016, 08:47:20 AM »
not shutting it down yet in Northeast Ohio.  We had a level one travel advisory over night into this morning.  Blizzard conditions at times.  Coldest April I can remember.  Still firing my furnace.

answered my own question.  I took the green cover off and wiggled the bulb around a bit and the light came back on.   Don't quite no what happened.  Maybe there was a bit of corrosion in somewhere.

WoodMaster / water level light

I replaced the water temp light last year because it wasn't working anymore.  Had to purchase the whole unit because they didn't sell the LED anymore.   :(

We had a power outage yesterday for about an hour and the light is off again.  I thought my water level might be low so added some.  Didn't take much.  I cycled the furance off and back on at the breaker thinking that might reset everything.  The power flickered several times before going completly off for about an hour.  I wonder if that thing is voltage sensitive and a surge fried it?

Do I have to purchase another light module again?

Anyone else run into that problem.

still not sorry I bought the auger.  This year I am only on my second bucket of ashes.  Don't know if it's my mixture of wood, the proper dryness or the year.  We had a fairly mild winter so that might have been a part of it.  This year the ashes are nothing but powder.  Rake them around every day and there is very little else to do.  Every couple weeks just put the bucket under and auger them out.

I am burning a mixture of ash, wild cherry and some elm.  The bigger portion is ash.  Lots of dead or dying ash in my woods.

Looks like I will have enough for several years.   ;D

well I was able to get the part for the 038.  Just need to find the time to switch the part over.
177 is a whole lot cheaper than an new saw for sure.

Have been using an 038 AV super Pro for several years.  The throttle handle broke completely off today. It had been partially broken but I had repaired with some pop rivets and soffit material.  That lasted 2 or 3 years. Anyone know whether parts are still available for that model saw?  I can get spark plugs, air cleaners, chain, bars etc.

yes I installed the auger kit.  I didn't the 1st year or 2 but digging those ashes out every was a pain.
I haven't had any problems with it and don't consider it junk.  The frame is heavy enough but I'm not sure about the drive chain at the back.  I may put a new one on next year just to be safe.

Sure beats waiting for a nice Saturday to let the fire burn down to clean out ashes.  On a weekly basis I just stick a metal 5 gallon pail under the drop and 5 minutes or so later I am ready to close the ash drop drawer.

Just be sure to have a metal lid to put on the bucket for a few days until the coals are all dead before dumping the ashes.

Would I buy it again.  I sure would.  Well worth the investment in my opinion.

a bucket works just fine for me.

have mine set at 160 low 170 high on the reccomendation of my dealer.  Sure seems to use a lot less wood and the temperature stay fine in the house.

agree with all that was said.  I work in a machine shop and we recently had a young man quit because he didn't have enough time to spend with his wife/girlfriend and new baby.  Don't know what he is doing now, maybe sponging off the rest of us.  My wood pile keeps me busy all summer & fall  just getting ready for the winter.  I live alone so if the mortgage is to be paid and I want the house warm I have little choice but to work and save all I can.

mine is probably 50' away down wind.  I didn't want it too close and I wanted easy access for my propane company.  So it is seprated by a driveway plus a few feet on either side of that as well.  I didn't check with the propane company but I made them aware I was putting a wood furnace in.

running mine at 160 on/170 off.  Definitly takes a lot less wood but not sure of the amount

Ohio EPA has come up with new proposed rules  I think they got hit with more comments than they could handle during the first comment period.  They have backed off considerably and decided to let the local communities regulate them and only regulate those burning the hazourdous stuff.  Attachments for your reading pleasure.

Haven't thought of that but it's own grounding rod sounds like a great idea.  I will have to plan for that.  Fortunately I haven't got hit by lightning yet and hope I don't.  I did have one phone get hit earlier before I had it on a battery filter/backup.

Proposed rules downloaded too but I didn't see them until later.  I plan to comment at the website provided and as you suggested thanking them of seriously reconsidering this issue and looking at it with a little more common sense.
