Shaver Furnace / How'd your Shaver do this past winter??
« on: April 25, 2015, 07:43:15 PM »
Went thru 14 cords since Oct. '14 in the Shaver  165  here in SE PA...way cheaper than using the oil burner though.....kept 4000 sq ft toasty even on the -10 nights...with no issues or failures, just keep it stoked .... wondering how others who OWN & heat with a Shaver made out.....

Shaver Furnace / Any coal burners?
« on: December 28, 2010, 04:36:28 PM »
Since I did the blower flap modification recently I decided to try a little stove coal in the 165 again.......Works great.. I will be getting a couple tons delivered soon....Was almost impossible to burn the coal with the fixed shutter on the blower but now it's a pleasure....really helps the burn time when supplementing the oak,hickory,etc...still experimenting with it.Happy with the blower mod and it's effect on coal burning, thought I'd share the joy....

Shaver Furnace / Any Satisified Shaver Owners ??
« on: December 05, 2009, 04:55:40 PM »
We ordered our Shaver 165 in November of '07 , and had it running in March of '08..Besides extending the chimney 6 feet ( $25.00) and putting a tee and thermometer on the overflow ($5.00) it is all stock...including the Therm-o-Disc thermostat....And we use it year round for our DHW in the summer...August next year it will have paid for itself..We're happy with ours but seems a lot of folks aren't happy with their Shaver..anybody else have a problem-free Shaver ??Just wondering.....
