Just curious what most people's opinions are on this. From comments I have seen over the years it I don't think a lot of people have any idea what it costs to run their pumps.

The price of power can vary a lot in different areas. Some people could be paying several times as much as someone else running the same pump. If you know what your power costs, please post the rates. If you don't know, you should be able to get it off a bill. Look at all the numbers that are x the number of KHW and add them together. Do not include any fixed fees as they are irrelevant what talking how much it is adding to the bill to run one thing.

I know what it costs to run my pumps, but compared to running the central AC most of the summer its minuscule.

Even though most of the grain drying setup is three phase, even single phase usage goes up. The cost of the pumps and central AC is a drop in the bucket compared to three phase and nat gas usage when we are drying corn.

Granted the typical homeowner doesn’t deal with the above so electric usage from the pumps could be a concern.

I just signed up for 12 months contract for 5.09 cents kW. In Ohio.  I use a NRF 36. I run on the lowest speed. 1.
130 watt. 1.2 amp

Wow, that is cheap. It is $0.15 in the summer and $0.13 in the winter here.

I envy all of you,here in Ontario,Canada,we have a real!$&;/@! For a premier ( like a State Senator ) ,who has raised the hydro rates up by something like 47% over the last couple of years. Our rate starts at  18 cents/ kW hour, add on delivery charges of 88% of what you use,plus 13% tax on top of everything. So the grand total for every kW hour of hydro that we use  is 18+ 15.84+4.4, for a total of 38.24 cents/ kW hour!!!

Yea my last bill was around $55-60 for the KW and $90 for the other charges.  $155 bill for a little over 1200kw usage

With a billing system like that there is no incentive to try to save power. Do they have a limit on how much you can use before they charge more fixed fees? They used to have higher fixed fees here and around 10 cents per kwh but they dropped most of them and went to the 13/15 cent rate.

In central Ontario our consumption charge is based on time of use, which varies from 8.7 to 18 cents per KwH.  In Sept I used 673 KwH, the energy charge was $74  (blended cost 11 cents per KwH and 46% of cost), Delivery $66  (40% of cost) and taxes plus other charges $22  (14% of cost),  Total bill $162 equating to 24 cents per Kwh all charges factored in.
My pump is a Grundfos 26 - 99FC which I run on highest speed.  According to the spec's, it would consume max 197 watts.  Running 24/7, it would use 146 KwH per month and cost me $35 each month.  That is expensive, that little pump is responsible for as much as 20% of my energy use.  Yikes!
Running the pump at low speed (which would not provide the necessary heat to the buildings) would save me about 9 dollars a month.

My pump is a Grundfos 26-96, my Fathers is a Taco 007, as well as there is a Taco 007 on the back of the furnace circulating the water to avoid hotspots. Last hydro bill -$142.77 for usage of hydro,delivery charges $129.66, taxes and regulatory fees bring the grand total to $322.57 . Another $20.00 and the fees alone would be $200.00 over and above what I used in hydro for the month
