Central Boiler / Boiler filled again but still runs over 200
« on: February 03, 2016, 05:46:58 AM »
I topped my water off, and it seems i am still having overheating issues I have seen the temp at 200 aor a little more at times.
I turned the damper temperature max down to 183, but it is still running hot so etimes. I noticed my oressure cap off again so i had another boil over during the night.
I have cut my wood loading back to 12 hour intervals
Never had an issue till my first boiler over when i left a malfunction damper manually open a few weeks ago.
Any thoughts ?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Water temp an issue when topping off level from tap?
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:10:50 PM »
My furnace water is lwer than recommended ans I notice the temp is getting up to 200 at times.
I need to add some water, just wondering if I should when there is such a disparity in temparature.
Any thoughts? Of course Incan always let the box burn down and add later, I know

General Discussion / Don't think the wife is interested
« on: December 11, 2015, 07:04:49 PM »
Into the second month of the second season of my boiler, and still learning about wood consumption and all the other wonders of the topic.
Each time I return to the house I give a status update on the boiler temperature and how the coals look.
She politely acknowledges what I have to say, but I don't think she is as fascinated about it as me. What's up with that?

Central Boiler / Boiler overheated. advice on adding water later?
« on: November 22, 2015, 08:13:49 AM »
I found my damper wasn't opening this morning and used a shim to keep it open. The fire took right off, but worke too well but guess I had steam coming out the pop off valve
I suppose i will need to add some water. It isn't blowing now.
Any thoughts? I saw another post about lubing the damper. I will look at that inthe interim

Fire Wood / Not impressed with Husqvarna 372
« on: October 24, 2015, 06:00:24 PM »
I added a Husky 372xp to my saw aresenal. The dealer gave me a fair deal and added a second chain at cost. In the first hour of cuttung a large ash log, it threw the chain. The chain wouldn't go anymore. I put the new one one and it worked well the next few times i used it.
It threw a chain again on a 6 inch log. Worked fine rest of that work day. Now it isnt throwing oil. I did an internet search and found forum commentary that the oiler feed is plastic ans know to break easily. I am taking it in and hope warranty covers it.
I have a stihl in the shop that is getting its oiler replaced. Never had such issues with ant Stihl. So far this 850 dollar buy isnt too hot.

Fire Wood / Drain culverts for moveable storage?
« on: January 10, 2015, 05:52:09 PM »
Hi. My first post. I am in the second week of my central boiler 6048. Will be illegal to buyin Indiana this year. A neighbor has an older system and came by to look mine over.
During conversation he heard od people using 4 foot diameter culvert pipe to store firewood. Just use hay forks to pick up and transport. Serms pretty slick. I thought i could cut up the fallen trees around the farm, lfill the culvert at the cutting site, then deliver it to the boiler when needed.
Anyone using this method?
