General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / May 16th and still have a fire
« on: May 16, 2008, 05:11:47 PM »
It is May 16th and it is still cool and damp enough to keep the OWB burning. Just wondered how many others are still burning yours? We are in Stark Co. Ohio.

Is there any one out there that is not glad that they spent the time and the money to install an OWB?

How many Shaver owners are viewing this site?

Tell us about your Shaver unit and how do you like it.

The new Ohio EPA rules are not set in stone yet. They are still looking things over and are to hold public hearings so  all of us can have an input. If you have an OWB or are planing to get one I hope that you will attend the public meeting and share your feelings.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Wiring question.
« on: May 05, 2008, 08:03:18 PM »

I ran 1" pvc from the house to the stove and pulled 6 # 12 thhn wires through it. But I only used three of them 1hot,1net. and 1 for the ground. I ran both the pump and the comb. air fan off of one circuit. The extra wires are just for spare if something would go wrong with the others.

Have any of you built a shed to cover your wood pile? If so could you post photos of it?

General Discussion / Re: OWB/KEEPING IT RUNNING AFTER LOST ELECTRIC
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:42:05 AM »
Adamant,

I used the plug and rain tight cover for a semi tractor block heater, wired it into the electric supply at the OWB.

I use the same 20 amp. circuit for both the gas furnace and the OWB ,then I installed a two pole service switch at the furnace so when I hook up the generator at the OWB I can turn the furnace service switch off and isolate both the hot and common wires from the main panel. With this setup I only have heat, but that is about all I can ask my small generator to do. But it sure a lot better than being cold!

Hawken Energy, support only / Hawken Energy Owner
« on: March 30, 2008, 05:44:27 AM »
We have used our Hawken Energy for two heating seasons. Has worked very well for us so far. We have used 6 to 7 cords of wood each year to heat a 1500 s/f home with a full finished basement and dom. hot water also. Water is heated with a side arm that I built . Our nat. gas bills have been around $10.50 per month during the months that the OWB is in operation. Hoping that the ruling from the Ohio EPA dose not force us to shut it down and lose all the hard earned money that we spent to save on gas.
