Home Made / Re: Forced air build
« on: April 09, 2014, 09:06:23 PM »
I am a welder and also have a outdoor forced air one which I bought and one which I built and I get my metal almost at cost and unless you have all the metal working tools and skills to make a air tight 3/16 to 1/2 inch burner box thickness and access to a cheap source of rock wool it will be cheaper to buy one than build it as retail on some of the gasket and high temp insulation is much higher than you think I have 5 grand into the one I built and only 35 hundred in the bought one - yes I did slightly over build the one I made but if your gonna build it find one heating the size house you plan to heat cause I over rated mine due to old drafty house and still slept a lot of nights in my skivies on the blankets because unlike a boiler outdoor hot airs still heat even if you are not calling for it on the thermostat because when the fire box hits preset temp for blower kick in it has to dump hot air somewhere and it is the house I added a thermostatically controlled damper under my house to bleed hot air when it wasn't needed in house but still stayed toasty plan on adding green house to end of house this summer so when heat isn't needed in house and it is producing I can dump it to greenhouse should be able to grow orchids if it works as well as this winter!

I'm weird I guess, I've come to the conclusion there is no difference between an ass or an elephant, they all worry about getting re-elected regardless of the cost to the nation.

The current administration is so full of it they squish when they walk.

I'm starting to lean heavily toward Libertarians.
Been voting third party for 30 years last person voted for from dem or rep was Reagan and regretted doing it for over 20 years cause that brought on the Bush Dynasty, but after wising up started looking for the third party debates and last election the 4 main third party candidates said more in 30 minutes about about the issues I heard people around me concerned with than the Dem and Reps did in a hour debate and didn't dodge and weave like a boxer on the hard ones!

Site Suggestions / Brand not included in brands

I have a Airstove outdoor hot air wood furnace by Hopsco Energy and have made improvements to mine but know a few people here in minnesota who have them they are resonably priced as outdoor wood furnaces go and made in ohio and work well mine kept my old double wide toasty this bitter cold winter in minnesota and work well would suggest it as a brand addition and all if you do I am more than willing to offer the wisdom I have gained on this model over this last winter on it!

Fire Wood / Re: Block Wood or Slab Wood
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:43:41 PM »
Burned slab all this winter cause it was cheap and didn't have much wood stockpiled and my suppliers slab some are almost as big  as block must be some honkin trees they come from but keep up and ash stays low,had little more creosote but worth cost and easy to cut with chainsaw to furnace size lengths which mine holds about 24 inch lengths! Slab burns faster in mine than cord or logs so when it was sub zero I was down to 7 hour burn times if I wanted good bed of coals to start new load but at 20 bucks a chord of slab it was cheap enough to burn considering before I put in OWF I spent 2200 dollars to heat for winter with fuel oil!
