I cut stumps waste high. Makes em easier to pull out. And it's comfortable to cut at.

I'm food on wood  for next year and years to come. Lol.

I will get the stump in spring, when I can get at it.

rustic furniture, that's nice, hopefully he gives you the odd piece of furniture eh...that explains the stump, lol, I come from a logging family of over 60 years, in the old days when chains saws were still used, lolol, if we seen a stump that high, eeeek ,cutter would get a ear full...

I got a little out of hand last year. The next oak I cut will be for the winter of 2018/19.  45 true cords cut, split, stacked. Wife hates it though.  Will be 15 cords used this year.

If your cutting so far ahead is the wood even good at that point?  Seems like the the old wood would be so dry, like burning match sticks.

Chestnut and red oaks have a high moisture content. Green I cut two years ago wasn't suitable to burn this season. Currently I'm burning oak off of a log landing from five years ago. When you split it open it's pretty wet inside and sizzles pretty good.

The size of fuel would fall into the thousand hour fuel class. So the equilibrium moisture content doesn't get that low.

Now if it was birch, red maple, pine, etc. it would be pretty soft.  If I see it getting close I can always sell it before it goes bad.

That was a standing dead oak ,not as dangerous as birch,, had to get my nerve up.
Usually don't cut them that big.
It was dead, so I'm gonna split it this month,,, and burn it middle of next winter.
It will go fine, as I burnt another dead one in Feb.

Some stuff my neighbour made this winter

ash bench

nother

hemlock legs oak bench

ash end tables
