Traded a junk lawn mower for a trailer
« on: January 22, 2014, 09:57:21 AM »

Last weekend I traded a junk lawn mower that I probably would have paid someone to take away for a pop up camper trailer that had been converted to a flatbed trailer.  It needs a deck put on it, some paint and some sides and it will be ready to haul some firewood!  I will probably put some reinforcements in the frame when I tear the deck off because it doesn't seem to be real sturdy but it pulls good.  here's some pictures  http://s40.photobucket.com/user/01amercer1988/library/trailer

Wow..Yeah I say you got the better end  of the deal..Not sure why someone would want a junk mower lol. You would get more at the scrap yard for the mower.. Man its flat and wide open where you live...

He said he had a engine and plow that he wanted to put on it.  I work with the guy and I'll guarantee that he never does anything with it lol.  I am having some problems with the title right now.  It changed several hands and was never transferred.  Well someone had signed the title and then used white out on it.  I took it in today to try and work something out and they said I needed a letter from the person who was on the title.  Well a quick google search told me that he died in 2007  :bash:  we'll see how it goes from here.  I might just end up trying to get like $150 for it without the title.

It's very flat where I live.   There's hardly any trees around my house either.  When it gets windy here it gets crazy.  It's going to be -4 tonight with 30 mph winds.  The house is gonna struggle to stay warm!

If you are going to strip it and make a wood hauler, why not just make all your modifications to it and get an assembled title? Could save a lot of hassle, and it really will be assembled after you are done since it will be a completely different trailer than original.

I thought about that also.   But since it's been titled before I don't want to go through all the work to fix it up and then not be able to get a title for it.   I have heard they are really strict about that stuff in illinois now.

Take the serial numbers off so it can't be linked to the title, then apply for home made.

I'm trying to sell it right now. I don't think it would be sturdy enough to haul firewood.  I bet the axle is only rated for like 1000 lbs.  So far I've been offered $50 for it. I just want it gone lol

Looks like an old pop up camper frame to me, should be rated fro at least 2000 lbs. Our pop up had 8 ply tires and was rated for 3500 lbs.

That tag on the front left corner should tell you what its rated for.
