This is how an actual stand up company operates!!!! Unlike the fool that runs Ridgewood.

Tim is an outright criminal that has served prison time. He is a crook, and is just playing the system. He purposely tried the whole "Going out of Business" thing in order to skirt the warranty issues he was having. I myself got screwed around by him. He has told everyone in the past that the damper door was not an issue with sticking and burning out the solenoids, even though it was an obvious design flaw. I was indeed such a flaw, that they are now back in business and redesigning the stove. Yet he will not take care of us who bought the junk they already sold.

I hope somebody organizes a class action, cuz I'll gladly sign on.

Ridgewood is garbage without Craig

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: What is your heat loss from OWB?
« on: February 21, 2016, 06:08:45 AM »
BTW... I installed a in line temp gauge before my side arm, and after my HX'er, and from the boiler, through 75' of underground, and 20' of pex in my basement to the gauge shown zero loss. From there to after the HX'er (my return temp) is around 175° (this is only when the pump is on from the thermostat demanding for heat though.)

I'm heating about 2500sqft this year, and have went through about 8 cords so far of primarily 2yr seasoned ash.

Tweeker21...

I have a couple of questions for you.

Do your baseboards have adequate space below and above them for proper convection? I only ask, because I also run a boiler to boiler system and had a lot of trouble getting set up the first year of service. I found after cutting back the carpet that was directly touching the bottom of our baseboards that it now works 3 times better.

Why do you only run your stove up to 180°? Most baseboards need at least 180° water to perform at their spec. btu's. By the time you lose btu's getting to your plate x'er, and then the loss through your x'er, I doubt your hardly getting hot enough water to your basboards for them to perform like they should.

I had to install a larger pump on my system, and bump up my stove to 200° and only allow a 5° difference. Mine recovers in about 10minutes now and keeps pretty consistent temps.

I would also question how big your plate x'er is? Is it sufficient for the sq. ft your heating? Also is it plumbed in properly?

Some of you need to realize, this is not about EPA regulations! Michigan passed a bill, stating they will not, and do not, need to abide by the EPA's standards.

This is simply, just rewards for a total asshole, that deserves to be out of business. Craig couldn't deal with Tim since he got out of prison, and bailed. Good for him. Tim is a crook, and word traveled fast about his unprofessional, rude, cheating ways. The business took a hit, and they no longer can stay above water. I alone warned 6 people that were in the process of buying one to stay clear. The mother inlaw, my father, our neighbor, my wifes boss, and two of the guys I work with. All of them called Rigdewood, and all of them said Tim was a bit of a prick to deal with.

Karma....

I have gone through many, many, many solenoids between last season and the beginning of this year. Craig is what sold me on my stove, he left, and so did any respectable, or professional customer service. Tim is a complete ass hat, and deserves another prison sentence... He has done nothing but act like a dick to me, and tell me how I'm the only one that has ever had the solenoid problem. I asked him why the design change then? LOL, He actually told me to go F**k myself and hung up on me. The guy is unstable.

Yup... Tim is a total tool. He actually told my buddy to F#@k off, he don't want to sell his picky as@ a stove... Craig was the upmost respectable person to deal with, while Tim went out of his way to be a douche bag to me and everyone else. I hope he goes bankrupt. And this scares me to think about how my warranty will be dealt with if needed in the future. >:(

Did you get the inserts inside the Pex? For us, the half inch and 3/4 inch ones worked but the one inch ones leaked, but now they've started sending little plastic inserts for inside the pex to keep it from shrinking and causing leakage when it cools off.

Yes sir I did... the plastic inserts came with the fittings, and were used... They are just purely junk is all.

I'll be starting mine up today  :-\

Last year I helped my neighbor install his OWB system, and he chose to use Watts quick connectors, which is what was recommended by Menards for pex fittings. He deliberated for a while about it because they are so expensive per fitting. But we were very happy with how easy and fast all his hookups went rather it was from pex to pex, or pex to copper.

I was so impressed that I decided that I was going to use them to install my system last Dec. I spent roughly $700 on them. They worked great all heating season. We decided to shut down our stoves the same day, and when the water temps came down, every single fitting in our entire systems began leaking (gushing really). Now I called Menards, and they told me that I was running too hot of water through them, because I run mine at 200°F, but my neighbor only runs at 175°F and his did the same thing so...? When he called Menards, they told him that they would not recommend using them at all for any boiler system. Funny thing though, when you go into Menards, they have a nice display demo of a BOILER SYSTEM, that 100% uses the "Watts" brand quick connector fittings.lol

I tried calling the customer service line for Watts, and have never gotten through to a human being. So I emailed them when this originally came about, and they never responded.

I just emailed them again today as a follow up, and let them know, that I would be sharing my experience with anyone that would listen.

Well... Its cold in Michigan, and I'm going to be replacing fittings all day with normal crimp style ones.

Wow right2bear I'm on my 2nd year and have no creosote on the door at all. There is creosote in the firebox, but nothing dripping out my door. Last year I burned green wood, this year drier wood. Nothing like you are experiencing. What type of wood are you burning? Mine is a mixture. My high temp is 175°.

I'm burning primarily 2yr old ash and elm, with a mix of red oak.

Those request timeouts are not helping for sure but are not the whole problem.

Mmmmm...kkkk, so?

Any idea the problem or how to stop the "request timeouts"?

rerun you're trace route. I noticed you used outdoorwoodfurnace.com instead of outsidewoodfurncaceinfo.com. They have two different IP's or instead of typing the name in just use the address which is: 50.63.38.1

Here you go...
still the same as for slowness for me today... I tried to just type in outdoorfurace.com and it reroutes automatically to centralboiler's page?????
also on my computer, I can't get it to now go here at all without using the index page bookmark. No matter if I type in https://www.outdoorwoodfurnaceinfo.com/ or https://www.outdoorwoodfurnace.com/

I paid for Ridgewood's 8ft pre built stack... dropped right in after grinding down the bead inside the stub. It surely helped my recovery times by a lot. My problem is excessive creosote no matter what wood we run... almost like the inside of the tank has a coating of something that will not stop melting. I have never seen so much tar all over the damper door, spilling out onto the ground, destroyed the rope gasket within the first two months of running the stove.

Hell I run the thing at a 200° shut off and 196° turn on.

I also have been burning nothing but well seasoned wood so...
