General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / major problem solved!!!
« on: November 08, 2014, 10:53:18 AM »
Had a major problem and finally got it fixed. Replaced the crappy 3 wrap underground pipe I purchased and replaced it with logstor, what a major difference !!! The repair job was expensive, had to rip out 2 sections of sidewalk, drain the furnace, rent a jackhammer, backhoe, and a forklift to pick up the furnace, dug up 75 ft. ditch to remove the crappy 3 wrap pipe, bought 6 ton of screening in witch I put a 8 inch layer down first, installed the new logstor and covered that with about 8 inches of screening. The total repair cost me around $2000. bucks !!! When I removed the 3 wrap it was waterlogged, the insulation crumbled apart like dry leaves. I new I had a major problem last winter when the furnace ran constant and when it did snow I always had a 75 ft. clear path where the 3 wrap pipe was installed and I had it buried 3 ft. deep. My neighbor's though I shoveled a path out to the furnace, that's how much heat I was losing. This logstor pipe is amazing, the furnace is fired up and up to temp at 180, no leaks. They shouldn't even sell that 3 wrap crap !!! I hope other people don't make the same mistake I did, buy logstor!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / question on pump settings
« on: August 23, 2013, 09:51:22 AM »
Since my install last November I've been running my furnace at 185 high with a 20 degree difference. The pumps are both set on high. Can the pumps be switched on low or medium to save wood in the non heating months or can they be turned off until DHW is needed.

Good news today from earth, I called them today about my warranty info and water test results and everything's good to go, they also informed me they have a EPA phase 2 boiler now and their currently updating their web site. Can't wait to see the specs on it and future products. This gives me confidence they will be around for a long time, and I hope so. I'm very happy with my furnace from them as its heavy duty and very simple to run and maintain. Happy burning fellow OWB'ERS!!!

Earth Outdoor Wood Furnaces / earth furnaces exceeds my expectations
« on: November 25, 2012, 06:34:04 PM »
Earth furnaces are built like a tank and performs flawless. I purchased the mountain man 500 with the ash door and grate system and it runs great. I had to change the temp set point from 150 to 185 because that seems what everyone runs their burner at. Seems to have helped because it stays hotter longer, the blower fan runs a lot less, and it still smokes but not quite as bad when the blower motor runs. When it is at idle there's hardly any smoke. I have a total investment of $9500. in it cost of furnace, parts, install, permit, and inspection. I figure in a 5 year span it will pay it's self off since oil in my area is $4.19 a gallon and recently could go up to 19 to 32 percent in today's news paper. House and hot water is very hot!!! Best investment I made. I learned a lot on this site and hope its around a long time. Thanks everyone for the good information.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / guestion on temp settings
« on: November 23, 2012, 02:00:40 PM »
My burner runs at 150 then blower fan kicks on and at 160 it shuts off, what I've been reading most people have there set point at 185. Is this the magic set point and will it make the burner run more efficient.

Been looking on this site for a long time, loving the info I've been reading and I'm loving my new earth mountain man 500 . Its very easy to run and maintain and my house is consistently warm!!!  Had to make the investment, oil is out of control and now no worries about keeping the family warm. I would recommend this unit to anyone, its built like a tank and it performs flawlessly. I'm loving it. Thanks for the info and hope this site is around for a long time.
