Taco 007 pump problem?
«

I have a earth 305 outdoor furnance. I have a 16x16 exchanger air to air. A 10 plate exchanger for hot water. Around 100 feet total of 1 inch pex. maybe 5 feet of rise total. The pump I used to have was a broedger 3 speed. It supposedly put out 10gpm on second speed and 7 feet of head same as 007 taco. I installed pump and blower immediately came on temp dropped really fast. I waited a few minutres for air to bleed. Temp barely went up maybe to 3 degrees. Heater boiler over so I unplugged fan it kept on boiling over for a good 10 minutes I turned pump off. Whats wrong?

Is the pump circulating water? Check that all valves open, pump facing the correct direction, etc.

What was the model of the Broeder pump? The only ones I have seen are 39' of head on high. I don't remember what medium is. I don't think a 007 will work with a 10 plate in the system.

All valves are open. Its pulling from top port on furnance so pump arrow is facing down for water flow direction. Its the 007ifc. The pump is facing where you can read what it says on pump.

bn39-20 front the chart i looked at it makes the same numbers on the second speed as taco 007. it also worked on setting one just really low gpm. It goes through 16x16 heat exchanger first before the 10 plate.Water is not making it to the heat exchanger I have a bypass on it. Still didnt help so shouldnt be any restriction like the 10 plate might be.

The reason Im swapping the 3 speed monster pump. Is energy usage is through the roof. I have a 30 plate in my shopping cart on altheatsupply. Im just waiting to see what else I need before i go ahead and order it. The pump was stuck on the fitting after I unbolted it and I dropped it because it fell unexpectedly and broke the speed control switch. CRAP!!! Been one of those days. Coldest day so far no furnance.....

Plumbed like the picture?
Did you make 100% sure your furnace is full of water and not trying to draw water that isn't there?

I agree that the Broeder is an energy hog but there is no way a 007 will pump as much as the broeder on your system.
Both pumps may have the same flow at 10 GPM but I highly doubt you were flowing close to that with the broeder.
You would be better off with a Taco 0015 or Grundfos 15-58. If you go with a 30 plate the 007 may work but you would still be better off with either of the pumps I mentioned.
Or it you want to cut the power usage down even more you could use a Grundfos Alpha pump.

A friend of mine has a central boiler with a 30 plate and taco 007 his works out pretty good. I ordered the 30 plate last night. Im hoping to at least get it going until it gets here. I was going to order the alpha I was under the impression the 007 is stronger.

With 100ft. piping you need a a pump with more head than a 007. head means more than gpm in your situation. 008 or NRF22 or GFS15-42 are all better head and low amp draw pumps.

It lives!!! I think there was an air bubble inside pump everything works. When I install 30 plate Im sure it will work much better I will try to get rid of a few 90's I have in the system. This 007 pump is brand new so im trying to keep it. I know I could of gone with a bigger pump I had a bigger pump... I want low poer consumption. My old pump was insane used 6kw a day I would of been better off useing electric water heater than that thing. Thanks for the responses. This is my third season with furnance.

6KW a day would come out to roughly 72 cents a day
here
, so times 30 so yah, extra $21 a month just for the pump could be a little spendy.
I’m running a Delta T pump from Taco on my house circuit and am liking what I see so far.

Yeah 21 a month doesnt seem like much but when my normal bill is 85 dollars 21 just for the pump is outrageous. Now when im heating with my house with it and hot water. It evens out a little better. Im hoping this 007 uses close to a third of the old pump energy wise.

Killawatt monitor shows 007 at 78 watts compared to the 252 I was running with brodger. This pump will pay for it self in one season. I saw a 2 degree loss at vent in the kitchen heat wise 102-100 and around a 10 degree loss with hot water from 129 to 119 ish. The 10 plate is going away soon being replaced with a 30 plate by end of the week. I dont have a mixing valve. Super happy with the taco so far
