Portage & Main / Its that time
« on: November 19, 2016, 12:24:05 PM »
It has been warm here in PA. I usually start my boiler about the first week of October, but Im finaly starting it this weekend.
For the first few years I had the boiler I ran it all year for domestic hot water but that got old fast,Anyway it sure is nice seeing just a shimmer of heat and no smoke from the chimney. Any opinions on P&M new gasser?

Portage & Main / blower motor failure
« on: November 28, 2014, 03:20:39 AM »
Woke up thanksgiving morning to the oil boiler running, not good because my oil tanks are almost empty.Checked the wood boiler and the fans not running. About 2 years ago I bought a spare motor just in case this happens. It took about an hour to replace .
My optimizer 250 is about 5 years old. I suggest keeping spare parts for times like this. Im ordering another blower motor this week.

Portage & Main / silicone door gasket
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:07:15 AM »
I just changed my door gasket with silicone gaskets from www.ecosustainableenergysolutions.com they are a new P&M dealer and are going to have a tune up kit for P&M boilers.
My upper and lower chamber door was leaking and their gasket fit both doors like a glove.
The owners name is Gary and he was very helpful.

Portage & Main / optimizer 250 4th season review
« on: December 12, 2013, 07:49:31 AM »
This is my 4th season heating with a P&M optimizer 250. So far I have burned continuous except for 1 month this summer.
The boiler has worked great with no issues . So far I have changed the door gasket and 2 nozzles both are inexpensive and easy to replace.
There were some upgrades to the air box provided to me from P&M because I have an early model. I clean the boiler every 2 weeks and get very little ash.The boiler gassifies with in minutes of start up. Brian From P&M still calls yearly to see how things are going and to answer any questions. Im not connected with P&M Im just a happy owner with a very warm house!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Portage & Main after 18 months
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:51:48 PM »
I have had my portage & main optimizer 250 going for 18 months continuos for heat and hot water. This is a review of the boiler, so far it has preformed well above my expectations ! I had a different boiler before this that I bought new and it was not half the boiler the p&m is. The P&M is easy to use and clean, and is well thought out. Brian from P&M calls every few months just to see how thing are working. The smoke is very minimal, heats my house easily, and imo doesnt use a lot of wood. With so many bad products out there I thought I should post about a good product and customer support! Im not a dealer Im just happy with this boiler .
