 We burn lots of chips and sawdust. The key is getting air up through the fuel load. Its near zero here tonight and wind gusts up to 40mph, I probably got about 40% sawdust in my fuel load for the night.

ya i got an unlimited supply of both and really need to find a way to burn them
the p-m system looks nice but thats just way to expensive
we truck 3, 52 foot trailer loads a week of sawdust and chip out of the shop
need to find a way to burn some

Slim I definitely think that when I burn coal its hotter than these chips and sawdust. My brother (in the video) and I get scraps from another brothers pallet building company. He brings me tractor trailer loads, I got 4 last summer and haven't even burned one load yet. But I mix mine with a lot of regular firewood.

Yes I figured you would have to mix in some wood to allow the air up through the sawdust, I sure am sorry that you are leaving Yoder, I had a nice conversation with your brother a couple of weeks ago, how did his trip to Manitoba go?

 To be honest I haven't talked to him since then. When I decided to close shop I just walked away and haven't really talked to them about furnaces. Focusing on the next thing which is going to be cattle.

I want to wish you the very best of luck with it, after spending the last week of reading the new proposed rules, you may be doing yourself a favor by getting out now, what a bunch of BS.

The new regs with the addition of some of what the states are doing is going to be rough for decent dealers. For example Virginia is working on passing a law that restricts the state from enforcing the new regs. This simply encourages "black market" furnaces that will be incredibly cheaper than anything I could have sold. I read though most of the new regs and I'm just not up to trying any more. With my luck they will start taxing cow farts or something and put me out of business again.  At what point do you just give up and start collecting a check?

Here dairy guys are paying for sawdust/wood chips for bedding.

we sell to dairy farmers in northen vt,but i can always get a load of each
also we got mountains of bark and i always wondered if i could find a way to burn that
we practically give that stuff away

i read of a machine that was being used in Europe a few years back that was for making fire place logs out of sawdust. it just pushed the sawdust so tight that it would stick together without glue. I guess it could pack it so tight that the little bitof moisture (sap) in the sawdust would bind together and as the log came out in one continuous piece, it was just sawed off at the desired length. I think back then I read it was about 300,000.00 us dollars to buy.

sounds like you need P&M's chip boiler.

The new EPA regs sure read to me that burning those products in a chip boiler would be illegal unless it was dried to below 35% moisture, typically fresh chipped chips or sawdust will be over 42%, Thanks BIG BROTHER!
