Title: Summertime Blues
Post by: coolidge on May 15, 2014, 03:43:38 AM
It's not summer, but seems weird looking out the window and not seeing steam or heat coming from the boiler, for some reason I still look. I do miss my hot water already. I feel guilty using hot water knowing I have to pay for it.

I agree.  I feel like I'm neglecting her.  My showers just aren't as warm.  I feel rushed to get out of the shower sooner than I used to.  I'm back to doing my laundry on cold water.  Things just aren't the same!   :'(

I'll be on vacation from work next week so I'll take the time to shut mine down and clean it for the summer.  I'm not looking forward to using oil again for the hot-water, though. I hate hearing it run and it costs too much.  When I get my pennies saved I'll be buying & installing solar collectors to heat my potable hot-water in the summer.

Really? Don't think I've ever seen oil used for potable hot water around here. Most if they had a oil fired furnace or boiler would use electric to heat the potable water.

Mlappin, you have no idea how much difference there is in the heating methods of different areas of the country, Soooooo many variables to deal with.

It's a 40 gallon indirect tank piped to my oil burner.  Roger

I guess thats becoming more obvious all the time. I know it seems like the east coast relies more on fuel oil than the midwest. Nat gas and LP here for the most part. Oil burners are becoming a thing of the past around here.

Thank you for your post Neal, There's got to be some very attractive incentives from our federal overlords to promote those options, would you happen to know of any grants from our overlords that would help justify the cost of such a product, Thank you again for a new thread idea, it will be titled (PAYBACK ON YOUR OUTDOOR WOOD BOILER)

Geothermal is a waste of money in my location.

I am burning year round, hate oil and propane that much. When I had my drill rig punched several holes for geothermal but with high cost of electricity here in the "not so free or die" state NH I felt it was not worth it. The projects I worked on that were geo were either paid by our overtaxed dollars or the person could afford any system and geo made them feel right with the environment gods.

I guess I am lucky, my neighbor has a tree service and I get truck loads of soft wood delivered all the time for free.

We burn all year round.

Free wood or free sunshine sounds good to me. Add some free moonshine to that and we'll all be ok!

Homerglide,

Get enough of that moonshine and everyone would get along just fine! No one would care what the price of anything is. LOL
