How long will Ash stand?
«

I have hundreds of Ash trees that have fell victim to that little beetle! I don't need the firewood now, as I have plenty for this season. I would like to leave them stand, and drop them when needed. How long do you think they will stand before mother nature brings them down? I have some that have been dead for a couple years already.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

I would cut them down because I have noticed the dead ash trees seem to deteriorate very quickly in the weather. If you cut them down, stack and cover them they will last a long time. Plus the trees get very dangerous to fell after they have been standing dead for a couple of years.

Good point on the danger of felling a dead tree..... limps can come down in a hurry and without warning!
Those Ash that have been dead for a couple of years seem to holding out OK (bark is just this year beginning to loosen)... but guess I won't know until I take one down.
Thanks for you insight!
