HeatMaster / Re: heatmaster 10,000

The 375 does not reburn the smoke.

2
First it was called a 6000 and then last year they changed some things and went to the C models. I believe Scott burned one for awhile.

3
Heatmaster does make a unit between the two now. The C375 is 375,000btu while the MF5000 was 250,000btu and the MF10,000 was 500,000btu. I'm hooking a C375 to my home this summer.

C250 is a really good furnace, still not a phase II furnace and legally you could only burn coal in it from my limited understanding of state law.

Phase II is the current standard in PA, the state adopted several years ago.

Its my understanding if you buy a MF model furnace in Pa and burn wood in it you would be breaking the law.

Plumbing / Re: What is the temp in your water jacket?
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:00:06 PM »
Water flow in the water jacket depends on how the furnace is built. The design of the supply and return lines should be to always keep the water mixing. The way we always did it was pulling the supply off the bottom back and return water went to the top front.

I thought Pa had already adopted the EPA phase II standard where traditional furnaces couldn't be sold.

No plan yet? This goes in into affect in 60 days, it takes years to develop and has a gasifier tested. I guess that answers the question fairly clearly.

Best I can tell you is if you want a furnace with a warranty worth the paper its written on buy from a company with a proven certified gassifier. Otherwise the whole company will be gone fairly soon.

I agree Ryan is the one of the best guys I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I'm sure you are going to do well working with them.

All the epa would have to do is file a lawsuit in federal court. At that point the company will either pay a huge fine or pay huge legal fees. Then the question will be does the epa go after all the furnaces that company has sold since the law went into effect?
This is completely just a guess but I would think there will be a company or two out there that tries it and figures the money is worth the gamble. They would be half the price of the legal furnaces so you know they would sell like hotcakes.  No real way to know how strict federal enforcement will be. I'm not willing to risk bankruptcy but there have to be some out there who are, we have seen that already in this business.

12
The epa ban isn't on hold anywhere, its the federal law of the land and anyone breaking it will be doing so at their own risk. Some states are taking action to not enforce the federal law, this only impacts enforcement by the state.

HeatMaster / Re: Anyone burning sawdust

The new regs with the addition of some of what the states are doing is going to be rough for decent dealers. For example Virginia is working on passing a law that restricts the state from enforcing the new regs. This simply encourages "black market" furnaces that will be incredibly cheaper than anything I could have sold. I read though most of the new regs and I'm just not up to trying any more. With my luck they will start taxing cow farts or something and put me out of business again.  ;D At what point do you just give up and start collecting a check?

To be honest I haven't talked to him since then. When I decided to close shop I just walked away and haven't really talked to them about furnaces. Focusing on the next thing which is going to be cattle.

Slim I definitely think that when I burn coal its hotter than these chips and sawdust. My brother (in the video) and I get scraps from another brothers pallet building company. He brings me tractor trailer loads, I got 4 last summer and haven't even burned one load yet. But I mix mine with a lot of regular firewood.
