huskee 22 ton log splitter
« on: March 07, 2012, 12:35:50 PM »

Will this be enough power of a log splitter? I have some chunks of pine that are 24" diameter and maybe 2 months old. I don't want to spend another $700-$1000 if I don't have to to buy a bigger model.

Would this be a better buy than a speeco 22 ton log splitter?

I have a 22 Ton Huskee, I have split 36" dry elm with it, and it worked fine.  I don't think anything is much harder than dry elm.  I have not found anything that it wouldn't split, had it for a year and love it.  Pretty sure Speeco makes the Huskee splitters for TSC.

Is this the small one at tsc?  My local tsc store has a steady supply of them being returned, not sure what the issue is

Yes, the huskee I am looking at is from tsc. Is there a different brand at a comparable price/specs I should look at? I don't think I want to spend much more if I just split 5-10 cords a year to heat my house, but I don't want one that will break right away either.

I'm not sure....   They look good but I know I've seen a repair shop picking them up at tsc on several occasions, hard telling how many they sold tho

Lows has troy bilt ones near that price but I know nothing about em

Just don't get the 22 ton from Manards, I have broke the coupling between the engine and pump twice in a very short time.

Timberwolf makes the best splitters.  Google them for a local dealer

They rate them way different than tsc or any other brands.  In a timber wold a 20 ton splitter will cut the wood into cross ways, way stronger

I have the 22T Huskee. Works great.
They do have coupler/engine alignment issues and sometimes loose hoses. It does seem as though they are good about honoring the warranty if there is an issue. If you get one go over it before you use it, tighten hoses and coupler allen screws and eyeball the engine/pump shaft to make sure they're lined up.
If you go to "that other forum" and do a search you will find more info than you could possibly want.

24" Pine with a hydraulic splitter? Really? Sounds more like Fiskars X27 work to me. Probably quicker and definitely cheaper. About $50.

Good luck with whatever you buy!
