Empyre / Empyre Pro 200 Air Inlet Tube Cleaning
« on: November 08, 2012, 11:20:13 AM »
Just fired up my Empyre Pro 200 for it's 3rd season here in SE PA and had some trouble with blockage of the air inlet tube.  After removing the blower I found that the much of the tube was blocked solid with creosote.  After heating with a torch from the inside of the main burn chamber I was able to get a small electrical fish through the tube which I used to pull in a small piece of chain.  After working for a long time with the chain and not getting very far I gave up and lit the stove.  Seems to be burning fine.

Anyone developed a good method to clean this air tube?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / 1st Burn
« on: January 09, 2011, 05:15:18 PM »
After several years sitting on the fence about an OWB, and another year+ researching the various units available, I finally lit my Empyre Pro 200/Aspen 175 today for the first time.

Quite a liberating feeling when the forced air furnace in the house came on without the need for the propane burner.  Filled the OWB almost full around 11:30 AM and after 7 hours still have lots of wood remaining in the firebox.

Thanks to those of you on this board, especially main owb and willieG, who provided tips and instruction on how to get this unit installed and running.

Plumbing / water line question
« on: October 12, 2010, 06:04:57 PM »
I am in the processing of purchasing my 1st OWB which will likely be an Empyre Pro 200.  I plan to run 1" Logstor between the OWB and the basement with the intent on heating the house through forced air and DHW.  I'm trying to identify the best way to seal the Logstore penetration in my poured concrete foundation wall and was hoping others have already solved this problem.

Also, I am planning to use 1" Logstor based on only 60' between the OWB and the house.  Will this line size be sufficient to heat 3400 ft2 and DHW?

Thanks

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Trying to decide
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:52:47 PM »
After looking at pretty much every OWB manufacturer I have narrowed my search to the Empyre Pro 200 or the Wood Doctor HE5000.  Have seen positive posts for both on the boards but am looking for as much input from others as possible prior to making the purchase.  Plans are to heat a 3400 ft2 10 year old house in SE Pennsylvania with the OWB about 30 ft from the house.  Capacity of both seems similar from what I have been able to find.  The 30 year WD warranty is attractive but I'm concerned about the chimney mounted fan being loud.  The Empyre warranty is only 10 years but the interior mounted fan is likely to be quiet.

Thanks in advance for any input.
