Electronics / Re: Zone Valve wiring for a bypass
« on: March 08, 2014, 10:20:14 AM »Naturally Aspirated, How did you draw and post that I GOTTA KNOW !!!I used visio, I have semi-copied most industry standard hydronic icons for different devices.
If you need/want me to draw something out for you let me know.

How about a couple closely spaced T's and a circulator with a check valve on the supply side and a check valve on the discharge side. If you drop the lines going upstairs a couple feet down off the header before going upwards that would create a heat trap and eliminate any need for zone valves at all. Something like this perhaps:
This allows you to zone each exchanger via the circulators, you are not forced to run though the downstairs unit to supply the upstairs unit.

What are you temperature measurements supply and return lines of the furnace? What circulator are you using? What is the BTU rating of your exchanger?

I want to use one of their sister units with dual exchangers. They look to be good quality.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Why didn't I just get geothermal
« on: February 24, 2014, 07:36:26 AM »
I hope to employ both when I build my new home. There is nothing wrong with a proper geo setup. It will provide the same hot water to my in slab circuits as the wood furnace, granted the fan coils for low mass heating will not be as efficient, however the cooling in the summer is a fine trade off.

Certainly there are solutions for what you want. Most are not cheap, and will require an extra line on your cell plan. What you need is something like this:

Excellent!
I just broke down and bought this book of his:

So far, also a very good read!

Ok, so I know it looks a little daunting, but here is my sketch so far:
http://www.nealmastel.com/fs/Geo-Boiler.pdf
I'm thinking I may need to implement some thermostatic mixing valves to keep the temps down after the heat exchangers for the living quarters and the garage/shop.
Looking for suggestions for make/model on the circulators, the heat exchangers, and the garage radiators. I would like to get some circulators that have some discrete - or even better some analog 4-20ma feedback so I can design failure scenarios into the control system.

This might give you some ideas:

Central Boiler / Re: Wiring issue.
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:39:42 PM »I wonder - has anyone made a simple solution to this with an OR gate using two 24VAC coil relays? Seems to me it would solve all the world's problems with dual thermostats kicking on the fan. .pdf schematic attached.
Buy two of these relays and a little soldering and you are all set:
http://www.amazon.com/PACKARD-PR290Q-Relay-Coil-Contacts/dp/B0015XK0VA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1382681427&sr=8-2&keywords=24vac+relay

Could try something like that, I think if I were running dual stats it would be what I would do.

Site Suggestions / Re: Forum app
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:36:37 PM »It would be nice to use one of the forum app to get on this site. Don't know much about all that stuff but I have a couple other forums I follow, and there are apps you can get to make forum more mobile friendly.I see that Tapatalk has a plugin for SMF. Would be kinda nice.
What OS are you on duke?

Just had another idea, would three way valves to put the output of the geothermal heat pumps outputs directly into the plenum exchanger for the cold output and the hot water exchanger for the hot output before it returns into the geoloop?
