Just curious what you guys think of Wilo pumps. I've been using B&G and Grundfos. But I keep bumping into Wilos. We had trouble with some years ago and haven't considered them in quite a while. Thoughts?

Ive seen em, but I’m a creature of habit, Grundfos always served me well and still do so no need to change. I may try a Wilo in the shop, I have a taco that’s getting noisy, whoever would have guessed.

Also wondering who all is considering switching to ECM pumps. I haven't yet.
-
I was using Armstrong ECM pumps for a while. I had a couple of them die so I went back to Grundfos 15-58 pumps. It was the electronics on both that died. The mechanical parts of the pumps looked like they were still in perfect condition. Both were in the back of G series stoves and both stoves had two but only one died. I am wondering if it is too hot in the stove for the electronics.

I’ll give credit where its due, I have a Taco 013 Delta T pump on the G200 now, started out on the G400 in 2015, still working as of today.

The taco 0013 isn't an ecm pump, is it? I thought it was just a regular type with variable speed control.
Out of 15 or 20 of the Armstrong ecm pumps, there were just the two failures that I know of.

Not sure technically what you would call it, has a sensor on the supply and one on the return, then a dial that goes from 5-50F, I have the dial set at 20 and it speeds up or down to try and maintain a 20F Delta T.

Have not had good luck with Wilo, even on closed systems. One of our suppliers sends Wilo with all of the Lochinvar and Slant Fin boilers we buy from them, and there hasn't been a darn one lasted more than a year. Most of them die within 6 months, a handful within a week. Bearings lock up on all
-
Not worth the risk then I'm thinking. Thanks.

We use 100+ Wilo pumps per year and they have been holding up a lot better than the Taco , in open and closed loop systems

Bringing back an old thread hoping to see if there is any new info since then. The place I was getting Grundfos pumps from no longer sells them so my costs will be a lot higher. Wilo seem to be priced decently and from what I found so far are not made in China. (looks like France?)
About 10 years ago they were considered trash but I thought I had heard they were a lot better now. I am wondering if part of that was because most people used to mount the pumps on the top connections on outdoor boilers and when going to the bottom happened to coincide with dropping Wilo?
The last few replies to this cancel each other out. LOL
Anyone used any in the last couple years with good or bad luck?
-
I haven't used wilo since we got a few about 10 years ago and they mostly failed.
I'm using Grundfos now. And quite a few B&G. Theyve been great for years.
-
Still using Wilo pumps and they've been holding up well
-
Where are the ones you used made?
What models do you usually use? it looks like then 21, 30 and 32 would pretty much cover everything.
Having the 32 would be a good pump to sell as a Taco 009 replacement. i don't care for that flow curve but would be a lot easier than figuring out what the correct size is each time someone is replace those.
-
I have been looking at the Taco 0018E pump. It claims to allow the flow to be adjusted for the best balance using a Bluetooth app.
I haven't decided if there would be enough control to make any measurable differences in heat output. Secondly, it's kinda pricey as well.
Anybody have any experience with these yet?

Hmm…Dodd brothers?
-
Yeah, when they put the message on the site about possibly not getting more, I ordered a pile of them. Getting low now and hoping I can avoid having to raise prices.
-
They are made in France ,
We use the 21 and the 30

Maybe this was mentioned earlier-
Where we had failures with the Wilo pumps is the 3 speed selector would break off internally. Otherwise I think they were ok.
So they might work fine now, but my Grundfos and B&G pumps keep on running so why change? :) You get loyal when you don't have service calls for a while.
I think it's a Ford / Chevy /Dodge thing.
I do the regular Taco are not well suited to the grit and trash in an OWB.
