Plumbing / Re: Pump Location?
« on: March 25, 2013, 02:30:17 PM »
I have a similar setup. From my boiler into the house, through the pump, through 30 plate exchanger, into furnace plenum and return to boiler. I mounted the pump inside. I ran power to a switch and then wired the pump off the switch. This way I can flip it on now and again in the off season. I looked at Central Boiler's web site for plumbing ideas. They have everything drawn out.

You can get PEX anywhere

Full chisel chains are 100x better. They are a little more likely to kick back than safety chains but its worth it.

I live in central Ohio. We are suppose to have upper 70s all week. I'm going to shut down. I figure why use the wood and make my house extra warm. All I have to do is relight in a week or so.

I have been considering a Y strainer for mine. They use a screen filter you can pull and wash off.

Portage & Main / Re: ML 25

I thought the ML30 was their smallest. I don't recall hearing of a Ml25. I have the Ml30 and I'm happy with it. I heat 2200 sq ft plus a full basement and my hot water. Last year was my first year, but it did well.

Electronics / Re: Basic furnace connection question from a newbie!

While mine is a forced air propane system, the concept is the same. I have read more in depth ways of accomplishing this, but the easiest is two thermostats. By using jumper wires to the power and the fan from the existing thermostat you can power just the fan when heat is called for. This also allows you to set the existing thermostat 5 to 10 degrees lower than the secondary one. If for some reason the outdoor boiler goes out the existing system will kick on. Also I have read many posts about people trying to accomplish this with one thermostat. It seems this gets crazy complex and finding a product to accomplish this sounds close to impossible.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: circ pump placement
« on: July 28, 2012, 01:47:02 PM »
I put mine in my basement. I like it and it works well for me. When I installed it I put a t in the pex just before the pump and put a hose connection on the t. It made it easy for me to hook a hose from my sink and fill it. I also put a switch next to it so I can turn it on in the summer once in a while.

I also have an ml30 and love it. I have only used it one season and we had a mild winter but it's good. I paid 6800.
