We apply an even layer of ash to the vegetable garden.  Excess gets tossed down by the swamp.

I dump them on the wifes garden and till them under in the spring.  I don't know why, but she claims it is good for the soil.  And, it aint far from the burner, so all is good.

I was told in this forum that I could put the ashes on the yard as long as I didn't over do it.  It was suppose to be good for the soil as long as it was wood ash and not coal.  So far my yard seem to be coming in very green.

I was told ash makes the ground more acidic it is the opposite of lime, so I toss it on plants that like acidic soil

its actually a strong alkali, and will deacidify the soil.
combine it with lime, you get caustic potash (lye).
maybe we should start making our own lye soap?

I throw the ash in the woods for the most part..I spread it out so theres no pile....Did put some around my neighbors apple trees..During the winter time..When the snow is deep and can't go anywhere..I throw the ashes in a grocery store bag and bring it to the dump.
