I have an extra pump but no fan.  Where did you buy it from? I don't have a dealer anywhere close to me.

Yes I would agree that it is the best wood I have ever burned.  I have a friend who wants to do some trading for a truck load. This is going to be great.
I went and looked at it today,  5 years might have been an understatement. 1700 feet long old hedge row, very mature.  My kids might never burn anything else in the owb.

I am amazed at how little wood in am burning now the the flapper value closed when the unit is not on load.next year I will burn 1/2 the wood is have this year.
And I just got a score of bodock wood for the next 5+ years. It is also called orsage orange, it burns hot and long. Anyone have experience with this wood? My neighbor loves it more than oak.

I installed the owb. That was the first time I touched the blower. It sure explains why maintaining temperatures was so tough on warm days.  I always thought it smoked a lot when off load. People around here have hardy's and they smoke a lot so I didn't thank to much about it. Now I might have to try to keep the fire from going out on warm days.

I work in the oilfield and they look at me crazy when I tell them about heating with wood.  Most are to lazy to cut it let alone split it.  I tell them it cost me less than $1.00 a day to keep my house at 74' all winter long.

So I checked the flapper on my owb and found that the fan was upside down allowing air to draft in when the fan was off. Fixed it yesterday, what a difference that has made on the climbing temperature and wood consumption.  I now have to relearn how this owb works. Got a 24 hour burn on what I was loading for a 14 hour burn.

I told my wife that wood heats 5 times more than any other fuel source.
1 when u cut it,
2 when u load it in the truck/trailer,
3 when u stack the wood
4 when u load it into the owb
5 when it burns in the owb
Now I think about it 6 when I spread the ashes in the garden.

Has anyone installed a wireless  temp display in the house to see what the furnace temp is without going outside?

Your a good bit further north than me, but I have a hard time with my p&m bl2840 temps when I have warm weather with no wind.  I live in Tennessee and weather in winter can get to 70 a few times a year. I have to keep windows open and run dishwasher and washing machine on timers and very little wood in it. I hit 204 today. One day I will have a greenhouse to dump the extra load in.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / bamboo for firewood?
« on: June 16, 2015, 06:51:27 PM »
Has anyone ever used bamboo for firewood in their OWB?  When I was slaving away cutting and loading wood, my wife asked me if we could use some bamboo in the OWB.
I told her that we could probable mix it in with some wood and I would ask the guys on here if anyone has any experience with bamboo,  It grows fast, would replenish itself in a short amount of time.

Thoughts???

Looks like my pump is shot after 3.5 months of use and I didn't have money to get a spare

Everything is only a few months in use. No other issues until this morning.

Did my morning chores and come back to load the furnace. Noticed it was steaming out of the level indicator. It was a warm night last night so I didn't load much in.  I got temp back down. Now it seems like my pump is not pumping and making a lot of noise and then will lock up on the low and med. setting. Makes a lot of noise on high. The Line under the house is cold. I bypassed my plate exchanger thinking it was plugged. Nothing different. Any ideas?

I love my BL-28-40  Heating 2200 sq ft. Open A frame in most of the house.
At first I was running 1/2 to 3/4 of a load 12-14 hours when it got into the 20's at night. My friend with a 20 year old hardy told me to build a wood storage shed around the furnace that blocks the North wind will make a huge differnce in how much wood is used each load.  I also live on top of the hill where wind is always blowing some.  Once the wind blocking shed was up the next morning i had enough wood left in the fire box to last half the day.  Now I can get and easy 12-14 hour burn on a 1/2 load with it at 0 low at night.  the other night we hit -9 and it was just a small coal bed left in the morning on a 12 hour burn but temp was 180.  We keep the house between 74-77  We also only have 2 people showering in our household.
