Earth Outdoor Wood Furnaces / Re: Sticking blower door
« on: December 07, 2015, 06:23:54 AM »
I have an Earth 20x20 door on my homebuilt furnace and have been  using a paper clip, works well.

Also have a switch where I can control the blower so every time I load I will smack the blower door shut a few times with the blower on, that keeps any creosote buildup under control.

When you guys say "coil cleaner"...do you mean the stuff that is typical used externally on evap/condenser coils?

And if so, do you circulate it full-strength through the pump or diluted?

Thanks Sceptre and Slim, I think I get it now.  Think I will use the ball valves with the hose drain built in...and get to shopping for a little transfer pump.  Probably still about 4-6 weeks from fireup here in the Ozarks.

All my manifolds have added drain valves with ball valves to isolate the heat exchanger for flushing, I use commercial coil cleaner and a liberty pump, five minutes on each side, flush them with clean water and they are as good as new!

Slim (or anyone else), do you have a pic of this setup that you could post sometime?  And what is a liberty pump?  Thanks.

Sorry for those issues.  Moved the site to a new server and had to track down some incorrect settings.  Should be back to normal now.

Thanks!   8)

It's not quite as bad but I am seeing most of the same issues using Internet Explorer.

Yes mine is messed up to thought t was just me!

I wonder if it is browser-related?  Using Chrome here, may try something else and see if it helps.

Inlet and outlet on both sides of the plate exchanger have shut offs with garden hose fittings along with isolation valves on all four so I can completely separate the exchanger from the system to service it or even remove it if it need be.

Ok, I understand now, thanks.

I will look for some of those shutoffs, don't think I have ever seen any like that before.

Do you have 1" inputs on your plate exchanger?  I was wondering how you plumbed that to make it work with a drill pump...pics?

Also, off of this topic, the formatting of the forum is really weird...is anyone else seeing this?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Door Gasket?

It’s not overly difficult, just messy.

It’s what I di don the door for the waste oil boiler I finished up this last winter, cost of 1” rope gasket was bad enough, can’t imagine what the precoated stuff would cost.

Mine is 3/4" and yeh, I was surprised at the cost.  I found a 47' roll of the Rutland rope I mentioned in my OP for about $75 shipped.

That should give me 6 or 7 changeouts.  Hi-heat silicone is next on my shopping list.

Thanks to all for the replies.

ML, that sounds like a project that is right up my alley...hell, I built the furnace, surely I can pull your idea off.

Will do it before burning season and report back.
